7th Annual Connoquenessing Creek Clean Up This Weekend

The Allegheny Aquatic Alliance is organizing the Connoquenessing Creek Clean Up on Saturday. Teams will be dispersed along the Connoquenessing Creek — Conni — starting at McKim Way, across the creek from Riverside High School, and ending at Rock Point, where the Conni meets the Beaver River. Registration for the clean up day begins at 8 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 220 Fountain Ave. in Ellwood City. From 8 to 9 a.m., teams will be assigned, supplies and snacks will be dispersed and a safety talk will be conducted. Teams typically start removing garbage from the creek around 10:30 a.m….


Adult Dance at Ewing Park Pool August 27

The Ellwood City Council Parks and Recreation Committee is having a Adult Dance Pool Party at Ewing Park on Monday, August 27, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The theme of the party is oldies and DJ Franko will be playing music from the 50’s 60’s and 70’s. People are welcome to dance, mingle, swim or relax and enjoy the music. The concession stand will be open for those attending the event. There is a $5 admission fee. The Carpenters Project Pasta Dinner

The Carpenter’s Project is sponsoring a pasta dinner on Saturday, Aug 25 at Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church. There will be two seating’s:  4:30 pm and 6:45 pm and the dinner will be prepared by Geoff Straub, executive chef of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Carpenter’s Project has been helping out around the community for about 10 years. “We have been building wheelchair ramps for about 10 years,” said Marsha Timblin, a founder of The Carpenters Project. ” We started building ramps because someone needed one, referrals for ramps come from local doctors and other medical personnel. The 2nd Avenue Project Performs at The Final Community Concert Season Event

The Ellwood City Community Stage closed its concert season this Saturday with The 2nd Avenue Project. The 2nd  Avenue Project is a horn band known for playing funk, rock and soul from Ohio and western Pennsylvania. The group played a variety of music Saturday night including songs like “Saturday in the Park” and “Make Me Smile” by Chicago. The group plays more than 45 concerts a year with the summer being its busiest time. Thirteen years ago the group was formed, mainly with musicians who played with the Vocal Group Hall of Fame that was founded by Tony Butala. Below you…

Over 37 million people in 16,124 communities celebrate America’s National Night Out against crime. National Night Out,  began in 1984 in an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. National Night Outs are held on the first Tuesday of August. Franklin Township held their 6th Annual Community Day National Night Out Event on, August 7. Yellow Ribbon Girls Carnival August 11

The Yellow Ribbon Girls, which are based out of Ellwood City, have a Carnival coming up on August 11 with proceeds to benefit the Yellow Ribbon Girls Care Package Postage Fund. The Yellow Ribbon Girls create and send monthly care packages to our troops deployed around the world. “We ship between 80- 90 packages each month,” Said Bonnie Phillippi, a founder of Ellwood City Yellow Ribbon Girls. “Our group depends on volunteers to donate their time to help sort and pack items.
