Starting August 14th, the Ellwood City Library will kick off this year’s Creative Writing Group. This group has been taught by Nancy Wallace for the past 12 years and meets every two weeks. Wallace holds a BA in English Lit and has had 19 traditionally published children’s books, along with a young adult fantasy series called The Wolves of Llise published by Harper Collins, UK. “The program is very rewarding for me and has sparked a lot of friendships over the years,” said Wallace. “I enjoy moderating it very much!” The group holds students from grades 6 through 12 who…

(Ellwood City) Katherine Bowser and Kristina Hogue, seniors at Lincoln and Riverside high schools, respectively, have been selected to receive $500 scholarships from the Ellwood City Hungarian Home. Bowser, a daughter of Kevin and Jennifer Bowser of Ellwood City, plans to attend the Pennsylvania State University this fall and major in environmental engineering. Hogue, a daughter of Jim and Mary Hogue of New Brighton, also plans to attend the Pennsylvania State University and major in journalism/communications. Holy Redeemer would like to announce that they will be holding three events soon. The first is their annual Pilgrimage to the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady Lourdes in Euclid, Ohio on Thursday, September 12. Departure from the Catholic Center Parking lot will be at 8:00 a.m with a return time of around 4:30 p.m. Cost is $40 a person. Payment and reservation is due by September 6. The Penn State Master Gardeners of Lawrence County are hosting their Fourth Annual Garden Tour on Sunday, July 21st from Noon to 5:00 p.m. The tour highlights five area gardens, which can be toured at your own pace. Master Gardeners will be available at each location to answer questions. The tour will consist of five gardens within Lawrence County. On June 28, 2019, Mayor Anthony J. Court presented a proclamation to Eric Rayner, declaring that June 30, 2019, as Eric Rayner Day in Ellwood City. Eric was the leader in saving the fireworks display for the Ellwood City Festival, raising $11,000 for the fireworks show. Ellwood City is proud of a great job done by Eric and grateful for all who donated to keep this tradition alive. I believe everyone, in and around the Ellwood City area, enjoyed the fireworks immensely.
