VIDEO: Hartman 5th & 6th Graders Create Story-Telling Robots

During the past school year, Mr. Marsh and Mr. Skoczylas, teachers at Hartman, have hosted 2 after-school robotics club for 5th and 6th grade students at Hartman Intermediate School. Students have created robotic animals, birds, and dinosaurs out of cardboard and other craft materials – they then “program” their creations to move and light up using a circuit board called a Hummingbird Kit. After dedicating four three-hour days to their last project of the school season, the students showcased their creations at the Ellwood City Area Library Friday morning. Ellwood City Area Public Library Activities for Week of June 12, 2017

Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: Monday, June 12, at 10:00 a.m. — “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. “Coloring for Adults” is a new concept in helping to reduce the stresses of everyday life. Ellwood City Summer Playground Program

Children ages 5-13 will be meeting weekdays from 10a.m.-2p.m. at the Ewing Park shelter #5 for the borough’s Summer Playground Program, starting June 12-August 10 (excluding June 29-July 4 for the Arts and Crafts Festival) and will be partaking in activities such as kayaking, yoga, and other summer activities. Celebration of the Arts Event

The Ellwood City Area Public Library is hosting its second annual “Celebration of the Arts” event in July, with this year’s theme centering around local artists and their work. A variety of mediums will be featured, including painting and drawing, wood work, fabric art and more. “Art on the Avenue,” sponsored by the Library Anniversary Committee, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 28th, and will be very similar in nature to the “Author Fair” held last year. Hartman Students to Showcase Robotic Creations at Public Event

The fifth and sixth grade students from the Hartman Arts and Bot Summer School Club will be showcasing their work Friday June 9th from 9:30-11AM at Ellwood City Public Library. Animated robotic animals from the picture book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do See? by Erie Carle will be on display. Mentored by teachers, Alan Marsh, Matt Skoczylas, and Scott Setzenfand, students built robots from cardboard and craft material. Relay for Life Leadership Meeting

The Sweet Shop Opening This Weekend

According to a live video posted by the owners of the Sweet Shop, the Lawrence Avenue shop is set to open this Saturday, June 3! They will be open from 8a.m. until the evening and will offer customers a variety of home made cookies, cupcakes, candy, chocolate covered fruit, and ice cream. “We are so excited and we hope Ellwood is just as excited as we are.” Watch their posted video below:
