Ellwood City Area Public Library Activities for Week of July 3, 2017

Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: Monday, July 3, at 10:00 a.m. —  “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. “Coloring for Adults” designed to help reduce the stresses of everyday life. Everyone is welcome, so call the library for more information. This program has been moved to Monday mornings at 10:00 a.m. through August 9 because of Summer Reading Program activities. Register for the Children’s Art Camp

Day Springs is now accepting registration for their children’s art camp. The program will be working with ages 7-9 and held on Monday, July 24 to Thursday July 27 from 10a.m. to 11:45a.m. Each day the children will see a short video of artist who highly impacted art as we know it, followed by projects done with graphite, pastel, crayon and colored pencil. Creative thinking is encouraged to help children use their imaginations – this helps them learn how to express themselves in a constructive manner. Community Carnival to Benefit Brooke Moffat

The Ellwood City Providence Baptist Church will be hosting their 9th annual community carnival to benefit the Moffatt family after their 10 year old daughter Brooke was diagnosed in July 2016 with ALL – Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. The date of this year’s carnival is July 8, 2017 and will be held on the church grounds from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The church hosts this day to provide free fun for the community, to get the community involved with each other, help local businesses and many families within the community. The controversial sale of the former Youth Development Center in New Castle has led local government officials and many community members to publicly express their concerns. Shenango Township residents Shirley Sallmen and Barbara Thompson called for a public meeting regarding the sale. Ellwood City Arts and Crafts Festival

Since 1981, thousands of community members have been celebrating the Ellwood City Arts and Crafts Festival – and the 2017 festival is expected to be just as successful. The event, scheduled for next week June 30-July 2 at Ewing Park, will include a wide variety of activities, performances and vendors for everyone in the Ellwood City community to enjoy! Festival funds (when there is a positive balance) go back into the operating fund for the next year, with a reserve held for possible emergencies. BC3’s 2017 Regfest: Free Sunglasses for Bright Futures

Two-day July event offers prizes, beachy atmosphere to prep for enrollment. Disability Options Network to Host Free Workshop

(New Castle, PA) – Disability Options Network will host a free workshop for parents in support of students transitioning from high school to employment on Wednesday, June 28, at Career Link from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. This workshop will cover independent living and self- advocacy and how to get there, using a student’s IEP to get to employment, an overview of the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) programs for transition age youth (14 to 21), and a brief look at disability laws. Annual Strawberry Festival to Return Thursday

The annual Strawberry Festival hosted by the First Church of God will be this Thursday, located at 1862 Mercer Road, Franklin Township, from 4:30-7p.m. Although the main focus of the event will be centered around an array of strawberry-infused desserts, ham barbecue and sloppy Joe sandwiches, hot dogs, baked beans, macaroni salad, and chips will also be available. Proceeds will benefit the church’s youth group – many of which will be taking part in the event.
