Riverside, Ellwood City Students to Appear on KDKA’s High Q

On Saturday, October 21, 2017, students from Riverside and Ellwood were at KDKA studios, One Gateway Center in Pittsburgh, for the taping of Home Town High Q. Ellwood students Molly McCommons, Kyle Smith and Noah Rinker and Riverside students Morgan Deiseroth, Ari Kendra and Colby Belczyk represented the schools in the competition. Riverside competed alongside Ellwood City against Waynesburg. The students compete against the rival teams by answering questions over subjects taught in school, similar to how Jeopardy is played. Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 Monthly Meeting

Corona D’Italia Lodge #807held their monthly meeting on Wednesday, November 8 at 5p.m. at Pizza Joe’s. President Clemmy Sirimarco, hosted the pizza luncheon served by Guard Lois DiFrishia, Secretary Jackie Perno and Historian Mary Jane Folino. Trustee Patty Regna voiced a commemorative prayer for all living and deceased sister lodge members and all of our military personnel. The business session followed with financial reports by Treasurer Louise Vitullo. She reminded that all dues for the 2017 year must be paid by December 31. Art Students to Paint Holiday Scenes on Downtown Windows This Week

After a several year break, the Ellwood City Kitchen Cabinet is sponsoring the High School Art Department, 3D printer students and parent volunteers to paint windows of buildings and businesses throughout downtown Ellwood City for the holiday season along Lawrence Ave. & Fifth St. on Thursday, Nov. 16 from 8a.m-2p.m. “Three years ago when we approached the EC Art Club to paint the vacant building windows on the 500 block, it gave a lift to the avenue and the public actually thought the buildings were occupied. Riverside Football Advances

Congratulations to the Riverside Football Team on advancing to the WPIAL Semi-Finals by defeating Avonworth High School on Friday night. Riverside will now play at North Hills at 7:30p.m. against Steel Valley High School this Friday. Tickets will be on sale this Friday in the high school athletic office from 7:50a.m. to 10:50a.m. Then tickets will be sold in the middle school and elementary lunches from 10:50a.m. and -12:30p.m. Finally, tickets will be on sale in the athletic office again from 12:30p.m.- 1:30p.m. Student tickets are $5 and adult tickets are $7. All tickets will be $7 at the gate.


Criminal Complaints: Several Pounds of Marijuana Seized During Traffic Stop

Several Pounds of Marijuana Seized According to the criminal complaint, after being stopped for a turn signal violation, Dwight Andre Campbell, 45, of Altoona, Pa., appeared to be extremely nervous – he was sweating excessively and his hands were visibly shaking. The officer detected a strong odor of marijuana from inside the vehicle. After searching the vehicle the officer located approximately five pounds of vacuum sealed marijuana in a box for home security cameras. Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting and Christmas Dinner

Panthers oust Avonworth, move onto WPIAL Class-AA Semifinals

Riverside made quick work of Avonworth Friday night with a 42-14 victory that move the #4-seeded Panthers into the Class-AA semifinals for a second consecutive year. After their first drive stalled with an interception, the Panthers scored on six consecutive drives – by ground and by air – to run away from the Antelopes. Noah Harris added 105 rushing yards  and accounted for three touchdowns for Riverside, while Maurice Cleckley joined Harris in the scoring column with two touchdowns of his own. Winter Weather in Forecast

You may have noticed a couple snow flurries flying around this morning, which is just the start to the winter weather season. According to the 10-day weather forecast on Weather.com snow showers are expected in the upcoming weeks. Important things to keep in mind: it might be warm enough to rain during the day but the rain may freeze over night causing black ice, bridges ice before roads, and the new anti- dog tethering law is in effect this winter for the first time.
