Historical Society Welcomes Guest Speaker On April 9

Louise Carroll will be the guest speaker at the April 9th membership meeting of the Ellwood City Area Historical Society. She will portray Martha Greene, wife of Merritt Green, who came here in 1889, to help establish Ellwood, as a future resort town. Mrs. Greene was well impressed with the fledgling town of Ellwood and expressed her thoughts in her own writings.

Louise was born and raised in Ellwood City, graduated from Lincoln High School and attended Geneva College and Providence School of Nursing. She was employed at the New Castle News for 18 years, and has been with the Ellwood City Ledger for 14 years. Louise has written for several national magazines including Woman’s Day, Pennsylvania Magazine and several Christian magazines. She has taught creative writing and has presented writing seminars at Westminster College. Louise has been the executive director of the Lawrence County Rape Crisis Center and the Ellwood Area Family Center. Louise’s family includes five children eight grandchildren and also eight great-grandchildren.

She is member of Bell Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Rotary Club of Ellwood City, Lawrence County Women Connect and the Ellwood City Area Historical Society.

The business meeting begins at 7:00 pm. Members and public are encouraged to attend, and bring something in for “Show and Tell.”

Refreshments will be served by Robert and Cindy Morabito.
