The Wolverines emerged victorious 78-62 against Freedom on Tuesday on the strength of Anthony Roth, who scored 31 points. Ellwood City had an early scoring surge, running out to an early double digit lead and claiming a 41-32 lead at the half. Lincoln solidified their lead in the final quarter, scoring 24 points. Roth led the charge for the Wolverine offense, scoring 31 points (10-17 shooting, one 3-pointers), with 11 points during the fourth period. Lead Analytical Results Show Exceedance at Ellwood City Schools

According to the official results of the first round of the Ellwood City Area School District Lead Sampling and Analytical Results in Water, each of the schools has at least one fountain containing an excess of lead in the water. At Perry Elementary, eight out of the 21 total tested water sources showed an exceedance of USEPA Action Level (0.015 mg/L). Northside Elementary had two water sources that tested over the standard amount, and Hartman had one. December 2017 Regular Meeting Recap: 2018 Budget Approved

Yesterday was the December regular meeting for Ellwood City Borough Council, and also the last meeting for Council President Connie MacDonald, Vice President David DeCaria, and Councilman Brad Ovial. The newly elected council members will be taking their places starting next month. Visitors Paul Dici praised the work of the street department for their quick and thorough work during the snow storm last week. School Choirs to Perform Carols at Community Plaza

On Wednesday, December 20th, 2017 there will be two local choirs performing Christmas carols at the Community Plaza. At 10:30a.m. the Ellwood City Area School District Concert Choir will be performing, conducted by Felicia Greco, Senior High Choral Director, and at 11:30a.m. the Laurel Area School District Choir will be performing, conducted by Kristen Clingerman. Like all Community Plaza concerts, the event is free to attend.

Ellwood City Wolverines Fall Short Against Shenango in Saturday’s Game

New Castle, PA – In spite of a solid performance from Anthony Roth with 17 points, Lincoln fell to Shenango 83-53. Roth led the charge for Ellwood City Wolverines‘s offense, scoring 17 points, with seven points during the third period. He also contributed five rebounds and one steal. Two other players also racked up double digit scores for Lincoln. Sean Busby put up 13 points. Broc Boariu hit two three-pointers and scored 10 points total. Old Photo Friday: Borough Property Nativity Scene

Although the photos are not very old, they are certainly a thing of the past after a Wisconsin-based anti-religion group threatened to sue the Borough of Ellwood City in 2011 if they didn’t take down the traditional nativity display, which has since been absent from the property. The group, Freedom From Religion Foundation, promotes nontheism and defends the constitutional separation between religion and government, their website states. The last year the nativity was standing on Borough property was in 2011, after the council members voted 4-2 in favor of removing the scene from municipal property beginning in 2012. A council…
