Alberts, Walley Collect MAC Wrestling Championships

Wolverine wrestlers Jake Alberts and Austin Walley collected victories and championships on Saturday at the Ed Driscoll MAC tournament at Freedom High School. Walley was also voted Most Outstanding Wrestler in the 16-team tournament. In the 120 pound Championship Jake Alberts defeated Anthony Maiure, Mars, 14-7 while Austin Walley defeated Bryson Miller, of Freedom, 3-2 in the 182 pound Championship.  Wolverine Donavin Chambers fell to Daniel Yetsick, of Ambridge, in his third place 138-pound contest, finishing fourth. Library Actives For The Week Of January 7, 2019

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities.  Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. VIDEO: Ellwood City Hospital Update

A KDKA-TV news van was parked just outside the Ellwood City Medical Center entrance this morning, with video equipment staging what could be another news update on the status of what has become regional news this week. Multiple Pittsburgh-based media sources have reported on the small, financially struggling western Pennsylvania hospital that has delayed paying its workers and now the works may find themselves without health insurance. Monday Night Cornhole League Set To Begin in January

The Western Pennsylvania Cornhole Association will begin a Monday night Cornhole League. For the next 10 weeks, players of all skill levels are invited to the Chewton Polish Club where at 7:00 p.m. players will participate in a blind draw for their partners and proceed to participate in the tournament. Due to the tournament being held in a club, participants must be 21 and older. Relay For Life Hosting “Super Bingo”

There will be a “Super Bingo” held at the Moose on Sunday, January 20th to raise money for the Ellwood City Relay For Life. BC3 At Lawrence Crossing To Host Program Orientation

(New Castle, PA) Butler County Community College has announced that BC3 at Lawrence Crossing will host an orientation on January 8 for students seeking to enroll in a free, month long basic health care employment skills certificate program. The Ellwood City United Fund board of directors will extend the annual fundraising campaign to January 31, 2019. “We feel and hope this will give the community extra time to respond for our plea of funds,” said United Fund Treasurer Andrew Kindle via email. Ellwood City & Beaver County Tree Disposal Information

With the Christmas season winding down, the once lively trees that brought joy and light up our homes are dying and needles are rapidly covering homes. From now until January 31, 2019, borough residents can drop these dying trees off at Stiefel Park. Wolverine Basketball Teams Each Collect Tournament Championships

Both Ellwood City Wolverine boys and girls basketball teams collected holiday tournament championships over the weekend.  The boys basketball team took the Mercer Christmas Tournament championship Friday while the girls basketball team upset the host Spartans to collect a Laurel Christmas Tournament championship on Saturday. Wolverines Win versus Fort LeBoeuf Ellwood City was victorious against Fort LeBoeuf 63-48 on Friday with the help of Rick Pitrelli, who scored 20 points. Two Wolverine Wrestlers Place In Holiday Tournament

Last Thursday and Friday the Ellwood City Wrestling team traveled to Southmoreland to compete in their Holiday Classic tournament.  Austin Walley placed 2nd (182 pounds) and Donavin Chambers placed 3rd (138 pounds) Participating schools includes Bedford, Bethel Park, Burgettstown, Butler, Beth Cener, Chartiers Houston,  Elwood City, Frazier, Fort Cherry, Greensburg Salem, Hermitage, Indian Land (SC), Jefferson Morgan, Lee Davis (VA),  Ligonier Valley, Marion Center, Mt.
