Ellwood City Borough Council Approves Two Year Agreement with Valley Waste Service

During Monday night’s Ellwood City Borough Council meeting, Council approved a two-year option agreement with Valley Waste Service to provide for refuse, recycling & yard waste collection. The new contract expiration date will be June 30, 2026. Borough Manager Kevin Swogger said the first year there will be no increase, and the second option year will come with a four percent increase. Lady Wolverines Rally Late, Knock Off Central Valley 6-4

Ellwood City used a late rally, on the road, Monday to earn a 6-4 victory against unbeaten section foe Central Valley. After training 4-0 entering the top of the six inning, the Wolverines struck for four runs and added two more in the seventh to pull away to victory. Ellie Kalantzis connected on a pivotal home run in the sixth inning rally and Kiley LeViere singled in the frame to knot the score. Ellwood City Community Health Foundation Now Accepting Scholarship Applications

The Ellwood City Community Health Foundation (ECCHF) is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2024-2025 Academic Year through June 30, 2024. The Foundation will issue scholarships each year to individuals who enroll in higher education to pursue a career in the medical field. The individual needs to be a resident of either Ellwood City, Lawrence County, or Beaver County, Pennsylvania. EC Boys, RHS Girls Each Collect 2nd Place Finishes At 2024 Beaver County Championships

The Ellwood City Boys and Riverside Girls Track and Field Teams each collected 2nd Place finishes At Beaver County Championships Saturday at Helling Stadium. The Wolverine boys finished with 83 team points on the afternoon while the Panther girls collected 84.5 points. For Ellwood City, the four man relay team of Nick Wise, Bradley Custer, Drew Steffler, and Colten Crizer posted a 1st place finish in the Boys 4×800 Meter Relay (8:28.62). ECASD’s Board of Directors Tables Motion to Dissolve the District’s Soccer Program

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors voted to table a motion to dissolve the District Soccer program during their regular meeting Thursday night. The consideration was originally on the agenda after interest in the program seemed to dwindle when a Google Document for sign up wasn’t completed by enough students to develop enough of a roster to hold practices or maintain a consistent team. Road Closures (Again) Due To Flooding

According to the NWS Pittsburgh, Thursday brought 2.77″ of rain shattering a 90-year-mark, and Thursday was the 25th wettest day on record (records back to 1871) for the Pittsburgh area.  This is already the 3rd wettest April on record according to NWS Pittsburgh records. “Pinwheels For Prevention” Program Launched

Mayor Anthony J. Court in conjunction with Children’s Advocacy Center of Lawrence County, members of UPMC Jamison, launched “Pinwheels for Prevention” this week. “This is a program for child abuse prevention and the pinwheels represents playfulness, joy and childhood and has come to serve as a physical reminder of a great childhood,” said Mayor Court in an e-mailed statement. Pinwheels and ribbons are displayed in the downtown area of Ellwood City. According to UPMC, and by the age of 18, one in 10 children will suffer physical or sexual abuse.
