Parents Demand New Head Coach for Ellwood City Girls Varsity Softball

A group of parents attended the Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors meeting Thursday night and demanded consideration of a new varsity softball coach. Despite leading the girls softball team at Lincoln as the head coach since 2006 and bringing home numerous titles during that time, Gary Rozanski was under strict scrutiny. Softball parent Doug Balin, said his daughter has come home from practice in tears. Riverside senior and golf standout Justin Hand signed his NCAA National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, November 13th to play collegiate golf at Tiffin University in Ohio. Hand played well and qualified for the PIAA Western Regional golf finals in September and also participated in the 2019 US Junior Amateur Championship in July. POLICE REPORTS: Criminal Complaints

The following are police criminal complaints filed at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Lawrence County office of Honorable Jerry G. Cartwright. According to a complaint, on Wednesday, October 30th at approximately 1:29 a.m. a traffic stop in Perry Township led to controlled substance seizure. Police stopped a 2011 Chevy Impala for failing to stop at an intersection on Portersville Road at its intersection with Mercer Road and conducted a traffic stop. It’s Time Fitness Announces New ‘Fit For Safety’ Program

Earlier this week, local gym and fitness center It’s Time Fitness announced a new ‘Fit For Safety’ program for all first responders in the Ellwood City area. The new, special membership program offers special rates to first responders. Wrestling standout and Ellwood City student-athlete Austin Walley has signed his letter of intent to wrestle at Bucknell University.  Walley signed Wednesday morning at Lincoln High School as part of NCAA Division 1 National Signing Day. Walley finished his junior season with a 36-5 overall record and finished 4th overall in the 182-pound weight class in the PIAA Class AA Wrestling Tournament held at the Hershey in March. Upcoming Chamber SBS and ‘Let There Be Lights’ Events Scheduled

The Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce is beginning to prepare for downtown holiday events! Small Business Saturday in the Ellwood City community will be held Saturday, November 30th while the ‘Let There Be Lights’ weekend of events is scheduled to be held Friday, December 6th and Saturday, December 7th. The chamber’s goal is to work together with community organizations and local businesses to help provide family-friendly events to help kick off the holiday season. Wampum Announces Annual Christmas Parade Date

The 47th Annual Wampum Area Christmas Parade is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, December 7th beginning at 1:00 p.m. Come out and enjoy a lineup featuring a steel line band, Toy Story characters, Muppets Christmas, Paw Patrol, superheroes, Rudolph, bands, dance groups, scout troops, floats, fire trucks, and horses! Riverside Upends McGuffey, Advances To WPIAL Semifinals

The Riverside Panthers offensive onslaught continued as it trounced sixth-seeded McGuffey, 41-27, on Friday night in their WPIAL Class 2A quarterfinal contest at Montour. Riverside (8-3 overall) rolled for over 330 total yards of offense in their victory over McGuffey (9-3 overall) one week after dropping a 40-spot on #3 Burgettstown. After exchanging scores to begin the contest, Riverside’s offense answered and then used a defensive pick-six to stretch their first half lead to a comfortable 27-6 margin.
