Council Passes 2020 Budget: Will Not Include First Responder Command Vehicle

In a three to four vote, Ellwood City Borough Council passed the $15.47 million 2020 budget. Before casting the votes, Councilwoman Lisa Guerrera urged council to consider adding in the purchase of a new first responder command vehicle. Fellow council representatives Rob Brough and Judith Dici agreed with Guerrera, which led to their vote of “No” on the 2020 budget. Guerrera said with the recent closing of the Ellwood City Medical Center, the time to upgrade is now. “This is our only line of defense to keep someone alive,” she said. “We are on our own here.” According to Guerrera,…

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities.  Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Activities taking place this week include WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 18 10:00 a.m. – “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. Wolverines Stun Aliquippa On Road, Win 51-50

In what comes as a surprise to many, but also may be a sign of things to come, the young Wolverines boys basketball team stunned and upset Aliquippa Friday night, winning 51-50 on the road. Sophomore Alexander Roth led all scorers, finishing with four 3-pointers and 22 points, to lead the Wolverines in their come from behind victory. Ellwood City, who trailed 26-22 at halftime, outscored Aliquippa 18-11 in the final frame and cemented the one point victory with clutch free throw shooting late. Dom Viccari Day Designated

Dom Viccari received a proclamation from Mayor Court this week.  Saturday is designated as ‘Dom Viccari Day’ in the borough on his 87th birthday in honor of his 65 years of service to the community. Lincoln High School To Hold Annual Christmas Choral Concert On Sunday

This Sunday will feature an afternoon of holiday music when high school and middle school students present the annual Lincoln High School Christmas Gift Choral Concert. The free concert begins at 3:00 p.m. in the Lincoln High School Sgt. Leslie H. Sabo auditorium. The concert and junior high choirs, the choral and junior capers, the women’s chorale and men’s chorus will perform a potpourri of traditional, popular and spiritual songs. Beaver County Man Admits Robbing PNC Bank in Cranberry Township

PITTSBURGH, PA – A resident of Patterson Township, (Beaver County) Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of bank robbery, United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced on Wednesday. Michael Ryan Neppach, 40, pleaded guilty to one count before Senior United States District Judge Nora Barry Fischer. In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that, on August 28, 2019, Neppach had robbed the PNC Bank at 20940 Route 19 in Cranberry Township of approximately $1,400. Judge Fischer scheduled sentencing for April 15, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. The law provides for a total sentence of not…

Connoquenessing Creek Nominated For PA River Of The Year – VOTE!

The Allegheny Aquatic Alliance needs your help! The Connoquenessing Creek was just nominated for Pennsylvania’s River of the Year! It is one of five nominations picked out of hundreds of submissions. Over time this local waterway had been neglected and abused leading to its rating as the 2nd most polluted waterway in America in 2000. Since then through Allegheny Aquatic Alliance and other organizations’ efforts, significant positive changes have been made to this creek and have resulted in the restoration of it. EC Student Reaches Goal for Water Filling Stations

Makena Hall, Lincoln High School junior, has succeeded in her mission “to come together to create a better tomorrow.” Hall led a thriving fundraiser to implement the installation of water bottle filling stations at Lincoln. She had a goal to raise $5,000 which is enough to cover three of the stations. Her motto: “One school, one community, one planet” has a two-fold motivation. One is filtered, good tasting water to keep students hydrated and the second is less plastic bogging down our environment.
