Ellwood City Mayor Anthony Court awarded the 3rd of 6 Beautification Awards to Arduino and Carol Nocera of Petain Street. They were presented with a yard sign and a dinner gift certificate as a prize. “The Nocera’s put a lot of  time and effort in their property and it shows in their beautiful landscape.,” said Mayor Court. “Congratulations to the Nocera’s!” There will be tree more awards issued this season which Mayor Court will announce soon. Ellwood City Historical Society Scholarship Winners

On Wednesday June 3, the Ellwood City Area Historical Society awarded the Robert and Janice Barensfeld Scholarships.  Under adverse conditions due to the Covid 19, the awards had been delayed.  Two graduating students attending higher education were selected from several entries Gabrielle Louise Gretch, Riverside High School and is the daughter of Dan and Alice Gretch; essay was titled “The Selfless War Hero.”  Gabrielle will attend Shadyside School of Nursing this fall. The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. NOTE The Library will be taking return books in specially marked bin in the Library parking lot Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Bins are for Library books and Inter-library Loan books only. Ellwood City To Plan Hard-to-Recycle Event

The Borough of Ellwood City has scheduled a hard-to-recycle collection event next month. The event, sponsored by the Lawence-Mercer Recycling/Solid Waste Department, will be held on Tuesday, July 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The recycling event will take place at the Ellwood City Public Works garage located at 105 Sixth Street in Ellwood City This session is open to borough residents only, and no commercial or institutional materials will be accepted. Community Garden Poster Contest

The Department of Public Works is holding a Poster Contest for children ages 4 and 12. “The community garden is a fantastic project for Ellwood City! I am elated to see our community work together for the greater good,” said Rhiannon Schnell, the secretary of  Public Works and Code Enforcement. Ellwood City Summer Playground Program Announced

The Ellwood City Summer Playground Program will begin Friday, June 12, 2020. Early registration will take place thru Friday June 12 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Shelter #5 in Ewing Park. Proof an “Ellwood City Area School District” address (utility bill, taxes, etc.) and the Driver’s License of the parent/guardian are required.  Registration will also be available from Friday June 12th – Friday June 19th.  You must register your child before they are allowed to participate. Ellwood City Public Pool Opens Friday

With the summer in full swing, residents all have one place on their mind — Veterans Memorial Swimming Pool. The pool will be opening Friday, June 12 from noon – 7 p.m, seven days a week. Masks will be required entering and inside the locker room facilities within the building. Gov. Wolf Provides Guidance to Resume High School and Other Summer Sports

The Wolf Administration today issued preliminary guidance for high school and recreational sports teams to resume voluntary workouts and other in-person activities in the state’s yellow and green phases. The following are police criminal complaints filed at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Lawrence County office of Honorable Jerry G. Cartwright. FATHER AND SON CHARGED Sunday, May 31, James Taylor Sr. & Jr. of Bridge Street, were both charged after Taylor Jr., 22, attempted to run from an Ellwood City Police Officer after the officer attempted to do a traffic stop.
