PHOTOS: Local Community Garden Honors Locally Made Art Winners

In honor of the new Community Garden Utility Shed at ‘5 Points’ intersection in Ewing Park the Department of Public Works held a poster contest for children ages 4 and 12 last month. The winners were promised to have their poster on display for a whole year at the garden as well as gift certificate from McDonald’s. The winners were announced as Mason is the winner of the 4-6 age group, Alex is the winner of the 7-9 group and Kyra of the age 10-12 group. PHOTO: Two-Vehicle Crash On Portersville Road

A two-vehicle crash sent one person to the hospital early Thursday morning. The crash happened on Portersville Road (Route 488) at the intersection with Wurtemburg Road. According to reports, one person was taken to the hospital and a second person refused medical treatment. State police are investigating the cause of the crash. The roadway was blocked off before Hickernell Road while crews attended to the scene. Riverside June Board Meeting Recap

On Monday June 15, the Riverside Beaver County School District board meeting commenced as usual with a focus on the 2020-2021 school year budget. At this meeting, a school budget of 25.35 million was passed with an 8 to 0 vote with one member absent. It was also agreed on there not being a property tax increase and the board used $298,924 of surplus funds to meet budget. Wolf Administration: CARES Act Funding for Small Businesses Made Available June 30

Governor Tom Wolf announced that beginning tomorrow small businesses across Pennsylvania can apply for grants to offset lost revenue caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting shutdown order. “In unprecedented times, like those we are currently facing, collaboration is imperative to getting help to those who need it most, as quickly and effectively as possible,” said Gov. BC3 Announces President’s List, Dean’s List and Graduates for Spring 2020

Butler County Community College announced the names of students who have made the President’s List and Dean’s List for the spring 2020 semester, as well as the names of those who have graduated recently. Students who have achieved a cumulative GPA (grade-point average) of 3.75 or higher are named to the President’s List following completion of at least 12 semester hours or upon completion of degree requirements. Students who have achieved a cumulative GPA (grade-point average) of 3.5 to 3.74 are named to the Dean’s List following completion of at least 12 semester hours or upon completion of degree requirements….

Butler Health System To Offer Antibody Testing

Butler Health System Laboratory now offers SARS-CoV-2 (COVID) IgG antibody test using Beckman Coulter’s SARS-CoV-2 IgG assay on Beckman’s DxI 800 analyzer. This test received FDA Emergency Use Authorization. This is the only IgG assay from top four in vitro diagnostic manufacturers that detects antibodies targeting the receptor binding domain on the spike protein of the novel coronavirus that is driving the ongoing global pandemic. It is believed that these antibodies have the potential to be neutralizing antibodies and may play a role in lasting immunity. ECASD Board Votes to ‘Remove’ Principal, Hire Three Teachers

The Ellwood City Area School District Board of Directors has voted to “restructure” the administration to eliminate the position of one principal and hire three teachers (2nd, 3rd, 5th grades). In a last minute motion, before tabling a vote on the $30 million budget, Director Jean Biehls made the motion to remove the principal. Biehls was joined with yes votes from Board President Renee Pitrelli and Directors Barbara Wilson, Kathleen McCommons, and Norman Boots. Mayor Anthony J. Court presented Linda Saxton of Pershing Street the 5th Mayor Beautification Award of 2020. Linda was presented with a yard sign and a dinner certificate from a local restaurant. “Linda did an amazing job on her property,” said Mayor Court in a statement. “Congratulations Linda!” There will be one more award issued in 2020 which Mayor Court will announce soon. The following are police criminal complaints filed by the Ellwood City Police Department. Dog’s Afternoon Out Just like the rest of us, two local dogs decided that enough was enough with the indoors and took to the sidewalks of Ellwood City. On Tuesday, June 23 Bailey and Brandy, two Newfoundland Poodles, were first spotted out of the blue by the viaduct on Second Street.
