Ellwood City Library Activities For The Week Of July 13th

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. NOTE The Library will continue doing curbside pickup. Please call us with the book(s), authors, genre or recommended material you would like to check out and our staff will see that it is in alphabetical order in the lobby for you. Limitations for patrons are 10 books and three, either books on CD or DVD’s, per person. All patrons must wear a mask when entering the lobby and wait until there are less than three people in the lobby….

ECASD Board Announces Elimination of Principal

*Note: This story was updated at 3 p.m. on July 10 to reflect the announcement of a resolution to suspend employment of a principal at Ellwood City Area School District. Citing a substantial decline in student enrollment of 15 percent during the 2015-2016 through 2019-2020 school years in the Lincoln High School, grades 7-12 building, the Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors passed a resolution to suspend the employment of Nadia Engel, assistant principal at Lincoln High School. POLICE REPORTS: Criminal Complaints

The following are police criminal complaints filed by the Ellwood City Police Department. PUBLIC INTOXICATION On Tuesday, July 7 at 1:08 AM, ECPD reported to Hazel Manor for a disturbance in the parking lot. When they arrived, they made contact with a visibly intoxicated Jerrin Brandon, 30, of Fombell, outside the front door of the bar. Brandon was stating that he wanted to fight owner Jeff Weisz because Brandon believed that he “stole money and cigarettes from his girlfriend”. Police asked Brandon to leave, to which he walked to 7/11 to ask permission to leave his motorbike in their parking…

Holy Redeemer “Pizza Greens” Sale

The Holy Redeemer Social Club will be holding a “Pizza Greens” sale Saturday, July 11. These Pizza Greens are actually spinach rolls and will be sold from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the Holy Redeemer lunch room for $4 each.

BC3 Announces Drive-Thru Commencement for Class of 2020

(Butler, PA) Graduates in Butler County Community College’s Class of 2020 can celebrate their achievement during a 1.2-mile-long drive-thru commencement that begins at 10 a.m. Aug. 1 on BC3’s main campus in Butler Township.Graduates who attended BC3’s main campus or its additional locations in Armstrong, Butler, Jefferson, Lawrence or Mercer counties and who have registered for commencement should bring their mortarboard, gown, tassel and degree cover to the ceremony, which is expected to last daylong. Graduates who have registered for the drive-thru commencement will be informed of their designated arrival time by email. Only one vehicle is requested per graduate….

Ellwood City Off To Strong Start In Tri-County HS Summer League

Ellwood City is off to a strong start in the 2020 Tri-County High School Summer League. The team is 5-1 after nearly a month of the season. The league consists of 15 teams from Mercer, Butler, and Lawrence Counties. Ellwood defeated Hermitage 9-4 on Tuesday rebounding from its lone loss of the season last Thursday. On Tuesday, Zion Bunney (3 IP) and Nathan Scott (5 IP) share pitching duties for the victors. Stiefel Park Summer Hockey League Cancelled

Due to the new guidelines of mask requirements, the Stiefel Park Hockey summer session has been cancelled. Originally, the decision had been made for the summer league to start after the 4th of July weekend, due to restrictions in Pennsylvania and many players traveling the country for vacations. They had to postpone the season originally due to the rink being located in Beaver County and weren’t even able to begin a season until the county entered the Green Phase. POLICE REPORTS: Criminal Complaints

The following are police criminal complaints filed at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Lawrence County office of Honorable Jerry G. Cartwright. Local Man Charged for making Terroristic Threats to ex-girlfriend 22-year-old Michael Sopo of Harrisville, Pennsylvania is being charged with multiple forms of assault and harassment after his ex-girlfriend called and reported him for an altercation on Wednesday, June 17. Pennsylvania State Police responded to a report by a female that had been assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, Sopo. Borough Updates: Targeting & Shutoffs

According to information made available by the Borough of Ellwood City, they will be resuming speeding enforcement and electric shutoffs. Ellwood City Mayor Anthony Court advised the borough police will be stepping patrols along Line and Wampum Avenues and Pershing and Beatty Streets where there have been complaints about speeders.  Court said speeding is a major concern now because children are out for the summer. Additionally, Ellwood City Borough Manager David Allen advised that electric shutoffs will resume on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 after a period of deferment during the COVID-19 restrictions.
