Lawrence County Offering Energy Conservation & Waste Reduction Workshop

The Lawrence-Mercer Recycling/Solid Waste Department has announced a new workshop in December. Learn how to ‘green’ your home through energy conservation and waste reduction with money saving and climate tips. The workshop is schedule to take place Thursday, December 1st from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Lawrence County Courthouse Annex. The annex is the former church across from the courthouse, using the Milton Street Entrance which is the one facing the Courthouse, located at 430 Court Street, New Castle, PA 16101. 2022 Halloween Costume Contest Winners!

Congratulations to the two, top place prize winners of the 2022 EllwoodCity.org Halloween Costume Contest!! The grand prize winner of the EllwoodCity.org contest was Lorenzo Geminiani, 1 1/2 years old, and our second place winner was Easton Sedgewick. Lorenzo dressed a Ghostbuster with a custom decorated playwheel and collected over 650 Likes to earn the first place cash prize.  Easton dressed as a garden gnome and earned just over 620 Likes for a runner-up finish. INDECENT ASSAULT OF A MINOR: Micah Peffer, 31, of Ellwood City is charged with Indecent Assault, Corruption of Minors, and Harrassment after an incident in October. According to a criminal complaint, and on October 13th, police were called to a residence on Loop Street for a disturbance. Upon arrival, Peffer and another man were in an altercation after the man received a call that his 12-year-old daughter was touched inappropriatelyl by Peffer. The girl told police that Peffer grabbed her chest and buttocks while she was sitting on a neighboring porch, an account for which two witnesses corroborated. The girl…


Carla’s Diner Closes Its Spring Avenue Restaurant

After 12 years of great food, fun and love, local restaurant Carla’s Diner has closed. The restaurant, located at 513 Spring Avenue, across from CVS Pharmacy, closed permanently on Tuesday, November 15th and will not be relocating according to a post made on its social media page. According to the post, the restaurant closure was forced by several factors: There are parties interested in buying the building and parking lot off of our landlords. Mercer Road Closure Begins Wednesday in Franklin Township

PennDOT District 11 is announcing the closure of a portion of Mercer Road (Route 1006) in Franklin Township, Beaver County, will begin Wednesday, November 16 weather permitting. A portion of Mercer Road will close to traffic beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning continuously through Friday afternoon, November 25. Crews will conduct roadway repair work under the railroad bridge located between Burke Street and Harmony Fisher Avenue. Mercer Road will close to through traffic. The members of the Ellwood City Italian American Heritage Foundation (ECIAHF) invite you to attend their Friday, November 18th meeting at 10:00 a.m. The meeting is held at 229 Portersville Road, Hunter Bros Coffee, (Old Ellport School). “Our theme is ‘A Walk Down Memory Lane’,” says ECIAHF President Barbara Mastropietro. $5K Raised by BC3, Community To Provide Free Holiday Meals

(Butler, PA) A Butler County Community College campaign to which employees, students and community members contributed $5,145 in September will provide free holiday meals to BC3 Pioneer Pantry patrons and in boxes decorated with paper hearts painted by 3- to 5-year-olds. Nearly 60 people during a week of charitable giving administered by the BC3 Education Foundation helped the college to raise funds to create Thanksgiving and December holiday meals for BC3 community members experiencing food insecurity.
