Lawrence County Seeks Community Input About Internet Access

NEW CASTLE – The Lawrence County Commissioners this week announced its initiative to evaluate internet access and connectivity throughout the county. Link Up Lawrence is a multi-faceted project that will collect data and feedback over the course of several months to identify service needs and project opportunities. A final study and report will outline the findings and proposed next steps with the long-term goal of ensuring reliable high-speed internet is available to everyone in the county. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

BURGLARY: On March 3rd at approximately 5:10 p.m., the PA State Police Beaver Station was dispatched to a business in Georgetown Borough, Beaver County for a report of a burglary. According to the police report, and at some time between 6:00 p.m and 4:45 a.m., unknown actor(s) forcibly entered the property of Georgetown Sand and Gravel, damaged the security system, the surveillance cameras and stole approximately $1,000 in cash. The unknown actor(s) fled the area into West Virginia. Actors were seen leaving the area at approximately 4:45 a.m. It is believed that the actor(s) are operating a white Ford Truck…

ECASD Student Madylin McCommons Named Candidate in U.S. Presidential Scholars Program

Madylin McCommons, a graduating senior at Lincoln Jr/Sr High School, has been named one of more than 5,000 candidates in the 2023 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The candidates were selected from nearly 3.6 million students expected to graduate from U.S. high schools in the year 2023. Inclusion in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program is one of the highest honors bestowed upon graduating high school seniors. Scholars are selected on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities. Ellwood City Bocce Team Advances To PIAA/SOPA State Championships

The Ellwood City Bocce Team has advanced to the PIAA/SOPA State Championships! The team collected three victories and a first place finish at the regional championships held last week at Geneva College. There were 10 schools from the different sections represented. The top two teams advanced, and the Wolverines were one of them. Ellwood City defeated Bethel Park, 7-2, and Pine Richland, 5-3, before wrapping up their impressive performance with a 12-2 victory over Chartiers Valley in their final match. The Ellwood City Festival Committee is excited to announce that this well-loved and anticipated patriotic pageant is set to kick off the 2023 Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Food & Entertainment Festival. Riverside Beaver County School District to Present Musical Damn Yankees

The Ellwood City Borough Department of Public Works would like to invite all children between the ages of 4-12 to participate in a Community Garden Poster Contest! Mayor, Council Recognize Police Involved in Active Shooter Event

During Monday’s Borough Council Meeting, Mayor Anthony Court and Ellwood City Police Sergeant Michael McBride recognized numerous officers for their quick response during an active shooter event that occurred in Ellwood City on January 30. Ellwood City Police Officers Joshua Sipe, Matthew Morabito, William Duaphen, and Matthew Kennedy; Pennsylvania Police Troopers Wier, Burkhart, and Stambul; Shenango Township Police Officers Corporal David Lough and Patrolman Daniel Tressler; Franklin Township Police Officer Matthew Straub; North Sewickley Township Police Officer Brian Watkins; and Lawrence County District Attorney’s SIU Detective Mangino were each given a commendation during the meeting. Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II Monthly Meeting Recap

The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II held their monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 8th at the Connequenessing Country Club. The meeting was conducted by President Mike DeOtto. The Wolves Club sponsored Annual Golf Bash held on Sunday, February 19, 2023 was successful. The event raised over $15,000 for the Wolves Club Scholarship Program. Thanks and appreciation was given to the Holy Redeemer Christian Mothers for assisting at the event. Thanks and appreciation also went to the members who worked the event at the Sons Of Italy.
