POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

THEFT: New Castle Police is investigating a report of identity theft in Wayne Township from July 13th. The victim was advised by his employer that they had received a notification that he had applied for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance. However, he made no such claims. New Castle would like to remind everyone to use sound judgement when divulging personal or financial information. Franklin Community Park Announces Summer Story Time

Time for some tales. Franklin Community Park will be hosting Summer Story Time for children and parents to come do story time together. The event is once a week and will take place every Thursday starting at 1:30 p.m. There already have been a few story times but the event will continue Thursday, July 15, July 22, and with the last story time being on Thursday, July 29th. Mayor Anthony J. Court awarded Bill and Samantha DeJoseph the 5th 2021 Beautification Award. Bill and Samantha reside at 1112 Center Avenue in Ellwood City. “The DeJoseph’s did an outstanding job,” said Mayor Court in a statement. “Congratulations, Bill and Samantha!” The couple received a yard sign to display and a gift certificate from a local restaurant. ECASD Board Director Resigns

Ellwood City Area School District Board Director Matt Morella has resigned from his board seat. In a letter to the board submitted on July 14, Morella stated, “I have relocated outside of the Ellwood City Area School District and no longer meet the residency requirement.” Morella said he relocated to be closer to his job at Strassburger McKenna Gutnick & Gefsky Attorneys at Law in Pittsburgh. Morella joined the board on July 3, 2020 when he replaced former Director Leroy Cortez, who passed away in June of 2020. He also had served on the board from 2013 to 2017 and…


Master Gardeners Host Annual Garden Tour

The Penn State Master Gardeners of Lawrence County are hosting their Fourth Annual Garden Tour on Sunday, July 18th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The tour highlights four area gardens, which can be toured at your own pace. Master Gardeners will be available at each location to answer questions. Each garden will provide an opportunity to view different styles of gardens, a chance to talk to the creators of these gardens and get their input on their gardening experiences, and talk to Penn State Master Gardeners from Lawrence County. VIDEO: Route 288 Detour Near Zelienople Airport Announced

At a virtual public meeting held on Monday, Joe Neubert, project manager for Independence Excavating, announced that the realignment of Route 288 at Zelienople Road and Route 1010, Lake Road, adjacent to Runway 17 of the Zelienople Municipal Airport, will begin Monday, July 19, 2021. The road closure will begin on July 19, with signs indicating closure dates and detour signs, adding they have been given 102 calendar days for the road closure, with the road to be open on or before October 28, 2021. Borough Announces Yard Waste Collection Schedule

City residents are well into the new trash removal system. Ellwood City Borough Council awarded the bid for collection of refuse, recycling, and yard waste to Valley Waste during an April 19 meeting, with that contract came added opportunities to get rid of yard waste. Instead of nine yard waste removal days, residents will be able to get rid of yard waste twice a month from April 1 to November 30.
