Borough Announces Free Parking Thru April 1

In a press release made available this afternoon, the Borough of Ellwood City has announced free parking in designated metered areas amid the state issued two week shut down of non-essential business. Free parking is designated at all currently metered spaces located on Lawrence Avenue, Bell Avenue, Crescent Avenue, 5th Street, 6th Street, 7th Street, and the Beaver Avenue parking lot for a maximum of two (2) hours from now through April 1, 2020. EC Historical Society: March Is National Girl Scout Mounth

The March meeting of the Ellwood City Area Historical Society was called to order and WWII veteran Guy Prestia led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes of the February meeting were read by Secretary Lois Liebendorfer, and the Treasurer’s report was given by Charles Brown. In the absence of Andy Kindle, Ways and Means Chairman, the group was informed that the Board has agreed to have a PeWee’s replica set up in the meeting room during this year’s Ellwood City’s Fall Fest in September.  Plans are to have hot dogs, chili and chocolate milk, PeWee’s basic menu. Borough of Ellwood City Response to the Coronavirus

In an abundance of caution, the Borough of Ellwood City has decided to limit the access of all non-essential employees and visitors to all Borough-owned buildings. According to a release made available by the borough, this will take effect today, Thursday, March 12, 2020, through April 1, 2020, at which time the borough will reevaluate the situation in regards to the Coronavirus. New Castle Man Pleads Guilty to Cocaine-Related Drug Charges

PITTSBURGH – A former resident of New Castle, PA pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of violating federal narcotics laws, United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced today. Wesley Cox, also known as Michael Deshawn Carter, age 38, pleaded guilty to two counts before United States District Judge Marilyn J. Horan. In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that from 2017 through May 2019, Cox participated in a conspiracy to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and 280 grams or more of cocaine base, in the form commonly known as crack. POLICE: Ellwood Police Seeking Uni-Mart Robbery Suspect

According to the Ellwood City Police Department Facebook account (@EllwoodCityPD), the police are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying a suspect wanted for an armed robbery, which occurred on Monday morning, March 9, 2020, at approximately 5:00 a.m. The suspect entered the Uni-Mart Convenience Store located at the intersection of Sixth Street and Beaver / Factory Avenue’s in Ellwood City and forced the clerk to open the cash register. BC3 Course Focuses On Preventing Military Veterans’ Suicide

(Butler, PA) Among Peter Albert’s patients at the Butler VA Health Care System are those who tell him that they’ve known more fellow fighters who killed themselves than those they’ve known who were killed in combat. Nearly 6,140 U.S. military veterans nationwide died by suicide in 2017, marking the 10th consecutive year in which the number exceeded 6,000, according to the VA’s 2019 National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report. Borough of Ellwood City Announces Utility Account Budget Plan

According to a press release made available by the Borough of Ellwood City, a utility account budget plan has been announced. Ellwood City Borough Council adopted Resolution #2004-4 approving a budget payment plan for utility accounts under the following provisions: Customers may complete the application form provided by the Borough during the annual open enrollment period from the third Monday in March through the third Friday in April. Historical Society To Award The Robert and Janice Barensfeld Scholarships

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will award the Robert and Janice Barensfeld scholarships of $1,500.00 each to two graduating seniors in 2020 who have been accepted into an institution of higher learning.
