Portersville Christian School Fine Arts Committee Announces Spring Musical

PORTERSVILLE, PA — Portersville Christian School’s Fine Arts Committee announces that The Sound of Music will be staged Thursday, April 30, Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2, at 7 PM, at the school, 343 East Portersville Road/Rt. 488 East, Portersville PA 16051. The director is Ryan Wise.

With music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, The Sound of Music is based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp and the story of the von Trapp family in 1930’s Austria.

While deciding whether to become a nun and serving as governess for seven children, Maria brings music back to the von Trapp household.

Eventually Maria and the children’s widowed father, Captain von Trapp fall in love.

After the annexation of Austria by Germany at the beginning of World War II and the recruitment of the Captain to the German Navy, the captain and Maria – now married – and their children escape from the Nazis.

Audiences will delight in the many familiar songs in The Sound of Music – “Climb Every Mountain,” Do-Re-Mi,” “My Favorite Things,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” “Edelweiss, and “So Long, Farewell”, among others.

Tickets go on sale on March 16. Ticket order forms will be available on the homepage of the school’s website, www.ourpcs.org or by calling the school office at 724-368-8787, extension 201. Tickets will also be available at the door. Tickets are $ 10 for adults; $ 8 for students. Children 5 and under are free.

There will be special Family Night pricing for the Thursday, April 30 show. Two adults and all children under 18 in the same household can attend for one price of $ 30. This option will be available on the ticket order form.

Portersville Christian School, located 1 mile east of I-79 at exit 96, is centrally located and just twenty minutes from Cranberry Township, Butler, New Castle, Slippery Rock, Ellwood City, and Grove City.
