Ellwood City Wolves Club Hosts Members Appreciation Dinner

The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II met on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at their shelter in Ewing Park. Each year the Wolves Club hosts an appreciation dinner for their members, their wives and significant others who have volunteered at their three fundraisers during the year. Sixty four members attended the steak dinner prepared by their members Bob Delisio, Matt Wally and Chuck Houk. 2023 Moraine State Park Regatta Brings Free Recreation Opportunities

Portersville – The 24th annual Moraine State Park Regatta will return this August 5-6 on the shores of Lake Arthur’s South Shore (225 Pleasant Valley Road, Portersville, PA 16051). The festivities will span most of the shoreline and include both land and water activities. The Regatta is Saturday 10:00 am-10:00 pm, and Sunday 10:00 am-6:00 pm. The event has grown in popularity in recent years, drawing a record of over 28,000 attendees in 2021. Ellwood City Routs Laurel In 72nd Little League Tournament Behind Weisz, Nardone

Ellwood City downed Laurel 13-4 Tuesday night in the 72nd Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field. Ellwood City broke open a close contest with a seven-run outburst in the fourth inning to pull away from Laurel. Anderson Weisz led Ellwood City with a home run, double, and single and Joey Nardone added a double and two singles. Elwood City opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning. LHS Class of 1954 Celebrates 69th Reunion With Cookout

The Lincoln High School Class of 1954 celebrated their 69th Reunion with an Ellwood city 4th July Cookout. The event was held on Saturday, July 1st, from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm at the Connequenessing Country Club Indoor patio. Red, White and Blue decorated signs designed and provided by Ilene Gardner and her family directed all arrivals. Chairman, John Tino, greeted the visitors and Pudue LaCava presented each one with name tags. Ilene Gardner photographed each classmate and their guest. Councilman George Celli was recently awarded the Carol Sambol Award from the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs for his 25 year dedication serving on Ellwood City Borough Council. The award is presented to honor faithful and effective service. Celli was presented the award by Sgt. Mike McBride of the Ellwood City Police Department.  McBride was the first officer who Celli voted to hire during his time on Council. Bernstine Announces State Funding for Workforce Development in Lawrence County

HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Butler/Lawrence) announced the West Central Workforce Development Board will receive a $250,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. The funding will support a West Central Workforce Development Board program to provide job training to young adults who were formerly incarcerated. The Community Connections program links these young adults to youth re-entry project partners, who will determine skill sets and training gaps, the need for supportive services, and training options. Vogel: Senate Acts to Protect Sexually Exploited Children, Human Trafficking Victims

HARRISBURG – Continuing to stand up for the safety and protection of children in the commonwealth, Sen. Elder Vogel, Jr (R-47) and his fellow Senate colleagues approved legislation yesterday to ensure sexually exploited children who are human trafficking victims always have full access to appropriate services and support. Under current Pennsylvania law, any minor that is exploited for commercial sex must identify their third-party perpetrator to be considered a victim of human trafficking, unless their purchaser is charged as a trafficker. Borough Receives Pennsylvania Day Grant In Support of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful

To support community improvement and engage volunteers, the Borough of Ellwood City announced today it is the recipient of a $2,000.00 2023 National Pennsylvania Day Mini Grant from America250PA and EQT Corporation, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and in support of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. Ellwood City Man Pleads Guilty To Attempted Production Of Material Depicting Sexual Exploitation Of Minor

PITTSBURGH – A resident of Ellwood City, PA, pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of attempted production and production of material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor, United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced Thursday. David Bates, age 63, pleaded guilty to one count before United States District Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan on June 12, 2023.
