Ellwood City Historical Society: June Updates

This is 30th Anniversary of the History Center. The Steifel Building was bought in 1994… and became the home of the Ellwood City Area Historical Society. June is Membership Month for the Historical Society. The Society is offering a 18 month membership for the cost of a 12 month membership. The 18 months will be from July through December 2024 then continue through January to December 2025. A monthly newsletter included each month. Vogel Announces $1.3 Million in PHARE Funding for Beaver and Lawrence Counties

HARRISBURG – Sen. Elder Vogel, Jr. (R-47) announced $1.3 million will be awarded to several Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) applicants in Beaver and Lawrence County. “These organizations dedicate their time and resources toward helping those who have fallen on hard times and struggle to find a place to call home,” said Vogel. “I am pleased to see that they will benefit from this funding which will further their ability to help our neighbors in need.” BEAVER COUNTY: The Cornerstone of Beaver County (TCBC) received $200,000 for the TCBC Men’s Shelter Operations. Ellwood City Public Library Sponsoring A Victorian Tea Event

The Ellwood City Public Library is sponsoring a Victorian Tea on Saturday, June 22nd at Calvin Presbyterian Church The event is scheduled to take place from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon. Items on the menu include assorted tea sandwiches, breads, savories, fruits, sweets and various teas. Hats are optional, but prizes will be awarded for the prettiest and the craziest hat. Route 65 Culvert Replacement Begins Monday in North Sewickley

PennDOT has announced culvert replacement work requiring a long-term closure of a portion of Route 65 (Mercer Road) in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County will begin Monday, June 10 weather permitting. Culvert replacement work will begin at 8:00 a.m. Monday on Route 65 between Bologne Valley Road and Oakland Drive. To allow the work to occur, a full closure of a portion of Route 65 will close to traffic around-the-clock through 8 a.m. Wednesday, August 7. Traffic will be detoured. Pittsburgh – PennDOT District 11 is announcing roadway improvement work on Route 351 (Crescent Avenue) in Ellwood City Borough, Lawrence County will begin Monday, June 10 weather permitting. Senate Approves Bill To Allow East Palestine Train Derailment Victims Keep More Money

HARRISBURG – The state Senate today approved legislation introduced by Sens. Doug Mastriano (R-33), Elder Vogel, Jr. (R-47), and Michele Brooks (R-50) that would enable Pennsylvania victims of the Norfolk Southern train wreck near East Palestine, Ohio, last year to keep more of their own money. “This bill would enable the families and businesses harmed by the Norfolk Southern train wreck to keep more of the money from their relief payments and settlements,” said Mastriano, who serves as chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, hosted a hearing immediately following the train wreck, and subpoenaed Norfolk Southern CEO Alan Shaw to appear before the committee. “Rather…

Tenaris To Adjust Workforce At Its Facilities In PA & OH, Koppel Shop Not Affected

Houston, TX – Tenaris has announced it will be reducing its workforce at its facilities in Pennsylvania and Ohio due to an influx of imports of OCTG into the United States. Approximately 170 employees at the company’s facilities in these two states will be impacted by the layoffs. The steel shop in Koppel, Pennsylvania, is not affected. Imports of OCTG account for nearly half the U.S. market demand. These imports are mainly manufactured in China and shipped through countries such as Korea, Thailand, and Taiwan, and are being brought into the States and sold at less than fair market value….
