Corona D’italia Lodge’s Final Mother-Daughter-Scholarship Dinner

Corona D’italia Lodge #807 held their final Mother-Daughter-Scholarship Dinner at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, May 7, at the Wolverine Restaurant. Reservations and seating were conducted by Patty Kuhn and Lois DiFrischia. Officers, members, and guests were greeted by Chairman, Valerie Valentino, as she presented each with the favor of a retractable back scratcher. Chairman Valentino, welcomed all the officers, members and guests with Mother’s Day wishes. EC Historical Society Scholarship Winners Announced

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will meet Monday, May 13 at 7:00 pm. Two scholarships of $1,500.00 each will be given at this meeting.  Two high school senior graduating students, that will further their education, will be the recipients.  Lincoln High School Gina Lynn DiCarlo and Riverside High School senior Isabella Marie Pansera will receive these awards. These students have been selected by the History Scholarship Committee; Mary May, Kay Houk, and Barbara Mastropietro. Applicants were required to write a 400—600-word essay on the subject of Ellwood City Area history.  Gina’s essay was titled The History of Rock Point…

Junior High Softball Team Defeats Mohawk; Record Improves To 11-2

The Lady Wolverines put together another solid team effort and defeated Mohawk on Tuesday afternoon at Stiefel Park by a score of 13-3.  The game was shortened to 5 innings due to the mercy rule. Mohawk jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first only to see the Wolverines tie it up in the bottom of the inning.  Nardone led off with a double and moved to third on a single by Keira Rozanski.  A wild pitch would score Nardone as Rozanski advanced to third. Ellwood City Varsity Softball Mercies New Castle 11-0; Record improves to 11-5 In a game that featured two playoff-bound teams, The Lady Wolverines came away with a convincing win on Tuesday afternoon at Stiefel Park. Ellwood City walked it off via mercy rule in the fifth inning with an 11-0 victory. Winning pitcher Angelina Nardone twirled a gem in the circle with an efficient 5 innings of work. Bernstine Introduces Bill to Eliminate Concealed Carry Permit Requirement in PA

HARRISBURG – Coinciding with a Second Amendment rights rally held today in Harrisburg, Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) unveiled “constitutional carry” legislation, which would no longer require law-abiding citizens to obtain a license to carry a concealed firearm in Pennsylvania. “If a citizen passes a criminal background check, it is patently unjust and unconstitutional to add layers of bureaucratic regulations on those who are least likely to commit a crime,” said Bernstine, a vocal pro-Second Amendment lawmaker. “The current process is a duplicative abuse of the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners.” Bernstine’s bill would make available an optional concealed carry…

Mayor Anthony Court announced today, with the beginning of summer upon us, the Ellwood City residents will once again turn their properties into beautiful landscapes, bringing our neighborhoods back to life. This will be the 9th year that Mayor Court will present “Beautification Awards” and restaurant certificates to six (6) area residents who take pride in their properties, throughout Ellwood City. EC Varsity Softball Team Defeats Hopewell, Earns 10-Win Regular Season

The Lady Wolverines closed out section play strongly as they defeated Hopewell Thursday afternoon by a score of 9-0.  The team improves to 10-5 on the season and finished section play with a record of 7-3. Makinley Magill got things started in the top of the second as she laced a double into left-center field.  Magill scored as Kyla Servick’s perfectly placed bunt single was thrown into right field for a two-base error.  Ariana Garroway walked with two outs to put runners on first and third.  Garroway and Servick then executed a double steal to plate the second run. Committee to Consider Farmer “Legacy” Tax Credit Measure

The Senate Finance Committee will meet today (May 1) to consider a measure that is intended to help new farmers get started in the business, according to Committee Chairman Scott Hutchinson (R-21). The Finance Committee will meet at 10 a.m. in Room 8E-A of the East Wing of the State Capitol Complex, Harrisburg, to consider three bills. Senate Bill 478, introduced by Senator Elder Vogel (R-47), provides a personal income tax credit for landowners who lease or sell their land, buildings and equipment to beginning farmers. 75th Anniversary Of Choral Music Concert Planned At Lincoln High School

The Lincoln High School Choral Department will be presenting our spring concert next Friday night, May 10th. “We are very proud to be celebrating this amazing milestone with two special concerts on May 10th and May 11th,” said Senior High Choral Director Felecia Greco. “This is an event not to be missed!” The concert will begin at 7:00 pm and feature seven different choirs with students in grades 5-12.
