Junior High Softball Team Loses First Game In Two Years; Record Now 6-1

They say that all good things must end. For the Lady Wolverines, their 25 game winning streak dating back to April of 2017 was snapped by the Laurel Spartans. The Spartans came to Stiefel Park and left with a 5-0 victory. Winning pitcher Autumn Boyd was dominant in the circle as she allowed just 6 baserunners and tossed a no-hitter. She fanned 21 and walked 6. She also chipped in with the stick as she provided the game-winning rbi with a two-out single in the third inning. Penn State Master Gardeners Of Lawrence County Open Garden Hotline For The Season

The Penn State Master Gardeners of Lawrence County has opened their Garden Hotline for the 2019 Season. The Master Gardeners of Lawrence County can answer questions on a variety of topics including growing vegetables, fruits, ornamentals and turf grass, plant identification, pruning, and insect and disease problems. Advice encourages the use of integrated pest management and environmentally sound practices. To help with identification and diagnosis, plant and insect specimens can be brought to the Lawrence County Extension office located on the third floor of the courthouse during Garden Hotline hours. Borough Residents Asked To Keep Grass Trimmed

Ralph Chiappetta, Ellwood City borough code enforcement officer, is asking residents to trim their grass and clear junk from lawns. Grass should not be blown into streets.  The Borough of Ellwood City first yard waste pick-up is scheduled for the week of May 13, 2019 for area residents with future dates made available on borough utility bills. Penn State Extension Offers Spotted Lanternfly Permit Training Workshop

Butler, Pa. – Penn State Extension, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, will hold a live-streamed Spotted Lanternfly Permit Training workshop from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, at the Butler Township Park Building, 468S. Duffy Road, Butler, PA 16001. Spotted lanternfly is an invasive insect from Asia that was discovered in Berks County in 2014. This pest has the potential to cause considerable damage to Pennsylvania’s agricultural industry. The Borough of Ellwood City is conducting a public open house meeting to review and discuss design development plans and a preliminary engineering report prepared for the Ellwood City Downtown Central Business District Revitalization and Economic Development Project. Bernstine Takes on Legislation to Increase Government Transparency

HARRISBURG – Continuing his mission to increase government transparency and accountability, Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) has reintroduced legislation in the state House of Representatives to expand Pennsylvania’s Sunshine Act. The Pennsylvania Sunshine Act requires state and local agencies to deliberate and take official action on agency business in an open and public meeting. While agencies are required to give notice when a meeting will be held, they are not required to include the purpose of a meeting. Pudue LaCava hosted the 1954 Lincoln Class, “PICNIC ON THE PATIO” committee at her Mt. Vernon Drive home on Thursday, April 04, 1:00 PM. Wolverine Varsity Recaps: Baseball Victorious, Softball Falls

VARSITY BASEBALL DEFEATS NEW BRIGHTON Ellwood City Wolverines stole the lead late in the game in an 8-5 victory over New Brighton on Wednesday. The game was tied at five with Ellwood City Wolverines batting in the top of the sixth when Jeramie Hill induced Brady Welsh to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored. Open House for the Child Advocacy Center

Mayor Anthony Court and Lt. David Kingston of the Ellwood City Police Department presented the Children’s Advocacy Center of Lawrence County, a Commendation at the LCCAC “Open House” held yesterday as part of their “Great Childhood Campaign” kickoff. On hand for a question and answer session were various advocates for LCCAC including a Trauma Therapist, Forensic Interviewer, and the Board Chair. The LCCAC sponsored the open house from 2p-6p yesterday.
