Ruth I. Steckman, 96, formerly of Brighton Road, Ellwood City passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015 surrounded by her loving family following a short illness. Born March 11, 1919 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Richard T. and Edna Sloan Stratton. She was married for 39 years to John C. “Jack” Steckman who passed away in 1975. James O. Yhelka, 50, a lifelong resident of Ellwood City passed away Friday, Oct. 30, 2015 at UPMC Montefiore Hospital following a short illness. Born July 1, 1965 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late James Yhelka and Peg Duncan Casuccio of Ellwood City. Jim retired from VEKA in Zelienople. He was Catholic by faith. Jim enjoyed cooking, baking, reading and fishing. He loved his border collies. His most cherished time was spent with family, especially his brother, Joe. Vivian M. Johnson Hudson, 79, formerly of Charles St., Portersville (Muddy Creek Twp.) passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015 at the Autumn Grove Care Center in Harrisville, Pa. Born May 2, 1936 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late William and Josephine Majors Duncan. In addition to her parents, Vivian was preceded in death by her former husbands, Richard O. Johnson and Donald Hudson, and two brothers, Bill and Ronnie Duncan, and a grandson, Jagger Lee Hogue. Born April 9, 1933 in Wampum, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Edith Rush Harper. She was married for 63 years to David O. Hairhoger Sr. who survives. Jean Hampe, 94, of Third Ave., New Brighton passed away the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015 at Northview Estates in Ellwood City. Born Oct. 22, 1920 in Sagamore, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George and Mayme Rowland Nolf. Jean grew up in the Plumville, Smicksburg Pa. area, where she enjoyed helping her father on their small family farm. Jean married Lawrence Wingard in 1939 and they moved to the Ellwood City area in 1950, with their two daughters. Paul E. McElwain, 91, of Soap Run Rd., Fombell (Franklin Twp.) passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015 at his residence following a one year illness. Born April 20, 1924 in Koppel, he was the son of the late Arthur and MaBelle Reeher McElwain. Paul was married for 63 years to Margaret Nye McElwain whom he married on Aug. 22, 1952. She survives.
