Eight Ellwood and 20 Riverside Athletes Compete in Track and Field WPIAL Finals Today

Eight Ellwood athletes and 20 Riverside athletes qualified for the track and field WPIAL finals today at Baldwin High School. The top eight finalists medal and the top five advance to the PIAA championships. Police: Brother and Sister Rob Laundromat, Michigan Man Caught with Prescription Pills

Brother and Sister Rob Laundromat A brother and sister were charged with stealing from a laundromat. According to the criminal complaint, on Nov. 30, 2015, Desiree Elizabeth McQuiston, 28, of Beaver Falls and Joshua Raymond McQuiston, 29, of Fombell, stole money from vending machines and washing machines at Snowy White Laundry on Portersville Road in Ellport. Investigating officers watched security camera footage which showed a female and male enter the building around 11:30 p.m. The two proceeded to smash machines to steal the money until around midnight. Ellwood City Borough Council May Meeting Brief

The following is a brief summary of the borough council meeting held on May 16: Awards/Recognition Nikol Damato, junior council member, was recognized for her year of service on council. Jozek, Ellwood’s K-9 who is retiring this month after nine years of service, was recognized by council, the Lawrence County Commissioners, State Police and Jarret Gibbon’s office. The K-9 officer, Sgt. Michael McBride, will now work with Jozek’s son, Ranger, who is already certified. Riverside Mercy Rules New Brighton in First Playoff Game

The Riverside baseball team had a fantastic start to the Class AA playoff season. In five innings, they mercy ruled New Brighton 10-0. A strong offense consistently got on base throughout the game. Austin Dambach and Cristian Cicchinelli each had two runs while Cicchinelli, Braden Bentel and Michael Boswell contributed three hits. Cicchinelli, Ricky Wass and Dylan Speicher each had two RBIs. Ellwood Softball and Riverside Baseball Playoff Games Announced

The Ellwood City softball team finished the regular season 16-0 overall and 12-0 in their conference. They are ranked #1 in the WPIAL Class AA. Their first playoff game is slated for Wednesday at Seneca Valley versus the winner of today’s Neshannock and Waynesburg game. The Riverside baseball team finished the regular season 16-2 overall and 9-1 in their Class AA conference. Their first playoff game is slated for Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Chippewa Park against New Brighton. Congratulations and good luck to both teams!


Junior High Softball Team Finishes Season with Four Consecutive Wins

For the second straight game, the Lady Wolverines won a game with a walk off hit. In Thursday night’s season finale, Sydni Haswell was the hero. She laced a line shot up the middle to score Taylor Covert and Maura Agostinelli as the team defeated Hampton in dramatic fashion by a score of 7-6. After a shaky defensive start that spotted Hampton a 6-1 lead after just two innings, the team regained their focus and outscored the Talbots 6-0 over the final five frames.
