Ellwood VS. Riverside Tickets on Sale

Student tickets for this Friday’s, Ellwood City Boy’s Varsity Basketball Game versus Riverside are on sale in the high school office. The cost is $2 per ticket. No student tickets will be sold at the door for this game. All tickets at the door will be $5 general admission and $1 for senior citizens.


Pennsylvania 2nd Highest Among States Affected by Salmonella Infections Linked to Coconut

According to the Center for Disease Control’s website, Pennsylvania is the second highest among the nine affected states for illness caused by a recent Salmonella outbreak. The site says that the CDC, public health and regulatory officials in several states, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to Coconut Tree Brand frozen Shredded Coconut. Illnesses started on dates ranging from May 11, 2017 to November 4, 2017. Ill people range in age from 1 year to 82, with a median age of 19. Among ill people, 19 (76%) are male….


Old Photo Friday: Jail Removed

This week’s Old Photo Friday is a photo of Ellwood residents removing the jail after a court session in 1967. The official release states: Members of the first kangaroo court, from left to right, Bob Miskolcze, Dale Vinroe, Dom Viccari and Jim Beatrice, removed the jail after last night’s court session in front of the Municipal Building. The jail is seen minus its first three occupants, Bill Livingston, Robert Abbatichhio and Robert Kimpel. The jail is expected to house many offenders in the days ahead before the jubilee celebration. Despite Pitrelli’s Performance From Deep, Wolverines Lose to Lincoln Park

Despite a strong performance from 3-point range from Rick Pitrelli, Ellwood City fell to top-ranked Lincoln Park 64-50 Tuesday Night in Section 1-3A play. Pitrelli connected on five 3-pointers en route to his team high 17 points (5-10 shooting, 3 rebounds, 4 assists) The junior forward connected on trifecta of deep balls in an entertaining first quarter that saw the Wolverines race out to a 17-15 lead. Ellwood City Council Raises Firefighter Pay

Yesterday the Ellwood City Borough Council voted to raise the part-time firefighter hourly wage from 11.40/hr to 15.00/hr, “a far more competitive salary,” according to Councilwoman Lisa Guerrera. While council voted in favor of raising the firefighter wage, the majority voted against raising the other non-union employee wages. Ellwood Resident Busted for Heroin Distribution

On January 12, Ellwood City officers served a search warrant at 806 Pershing St., a residence suspected of selling narcotics related to several overdose investigations. Officers of the Ellwood City Police Department were aware of the resident there, 27-year-old Samantha Sutherland, and drug dealing activities. Officers conducting the search were assisted by the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Drug Task, which Ellwood City Officers are member of. Numerous items related to the packaging and distribution of narcotics were found, including approximately 3.5 grams of suspected heroin. The staff of James N. Edmonds, Jr.’s office has made it public that Dr. Edmonds will be relocating at the end of January, 2018. James N. Edmonds, Jr. is an oral surgeon who has been practicing in Ellwood City for over 30 years and will continue to practice in Ellwood City (Dr. Brown’s office – 101 5th Street) one day a week on Wednesdays. Lincoln High School Cuts Costs, No More Paper Report Cards

In an attempt to cut thousands in costs, the Ellwood City School Board has decided to stop giving out paper report cards at Lincoln High School, effective with the latest nine-weeks grading period. Parents and guardians are encouraged to instead view their child’s grades through the online platform that is already in place; those without access to the internet or who prefer the paper reports can make individual requests to the school to continue receiving hard copies.
