Mayor Court Gives Fourth Beautification Award

On Thursday, Mayor Anthony J. Court was honored to presented to the 4th Beautification Award Winners, Kathy Kanich and Darlene Carcaise a 2018 Award Winner Sign to display in their yard and a local restaurant Gift Certificate.  


Ellwood City Festival Juried Art Show 2018 Winners

After a year of absence, the Juried Art Show has returned to the Ellwood City Festival. The Ellwood City Festival committee is pleased to announce the winners of the 2018 Juried Art Show. Taking Best of Show is Lynn Fletcher with her oil painting titled, “Hand Picked”.  Other winners are: 2D Distinguished-Beth Beiter, 3D Distinguished-Chris Ferruchi, Photography Distinguished-Jennifer Toman, 2D Merit-Grace Carroll Hufnagel, & Photography Merit-Lisa Greco.  In the children’s categories, Ali Gardner received a Merit award in the 10 & under category, and Hayden Slade received a Merit award in the 11-15 year old category.   As a special recognition for our men and women who put their lives on the…

Mayor Anthony J. Court was honored to present to the 2nd Beautification Award Winner a yard sign and a gift certificate for a local restaurant to Melissa Maddalon. Robert S. Tardiff, 64

Robert S. Tardiff, 64, of Ellwood City passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2018 following a lengthy illness. Robert was born on February 16, 1954 in Warwick, RI to the late John and Marilyn (Ruest) Tardiff. He had worked as a fabricator, welder, and foreman while living in Houston, TX. Robert enjoyed woodworking, doing yard work, and mostly enjoying life with others. Concetta E. “Connie” Manzo, 94

Mrs. Concetta E. “Connie”  Manzo, 94, of Ellwood City, passed away early Friday morning on June 22, 2018 at the Butler Memorial Hospital. Connie was born on March 3, 1924 in Ellwood City to the late Antonio Nocera and Antoinette (DiCerbo) Nocera. She is a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1942. Connie married Emmett Manzo on August 22, 1946. She is a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish and the Holy Redeemer Christian Mothers. Ellwood City Area Public Library Activities for Week of June 25, 2018

Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: Monday, June 25, at 10:00 a.m. — “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. Adult Dance Pool Party Ewing Park

The Ellwood City Council Parks and Recreation Committee is having a Adult Dance Pool Party at Ewing Park on Monday, June 25, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The theme of the party is oldies and DJ Franko will be playing music from the 50’s 60’s and 70’s. People are welcome to dance, mingle, swim or relax and enjoy the music. The concession stand will be open for those attending the event. There is a $5 admission fee. Calvin Presbyterian Church Awards Scholarships

Calvin Presbyterian Church recently awarded scholarships to Margaret Behm, Caylin Owens and Alex Vardzel.  Each student was awarded $3,300. Margaret, daughter of Jay and Jennifer Behm, and granddaughter of Judy Brooks, will be studying Early Education with a minor in Special Education.  She received the Dorothy McElroy Scholarship. Caylin, daughter of Tina McAllister, and granddaughter of Dolly and Ed McAllister, is in her third year in the Biology and Pre-Physician’s Assistant program, and will continue after graduation to obtain a degree as an Anesthesia Assistant.  She received the Calvin Church Scholarship. Ellwood City Kitchen Cabinet is hosting a very casual event on Thursday night at 6:30 in the Municipal Building. The purpose of the meeting is to share ideas of any interested group or person on what people can do to help Ellwood City grow and prosper. The meeting will be a baseline for those interested in helping Ellwood move forward by sharing their ideas and how they might be implemented.
