What’s Going On? Ellwood City Activities for June 8 to June 17

Ellwood City Medical Center New Hours

Ellwood City Medical Center has new hours for their outpatient laboratory and diagnostic services. The hours will be for services in the outpatient lab, X-ray and cardioplumonary for patients without an appointment. Ellwood City Summer Playground Program 2018

The Ellwood City Playground Program begins on Monday, June 11. Children must be between the ages of 5-13 and must be Ellwood City Borough residents. A parent or guardian must accompany their child to register them for the program. The bus will NOT be picking children up the first day of the program, June 11, to ensure that parents will come with their child to complete the registration form. Kyle Smith is Awarded Direct Appointment From USAFA

Kyle Douglas Smith the son of Doug and Joanne Smith, from Lincoln High School recently was accepted into the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) as a direct appointment.  This is an extremely selective program where only an approximate 1,400 students out of 25,000 applicants nationwide are afforded this offer.  This education is valued at over $425,000 along with an Air Force commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force upon graduation. “This is a rather prestigious honor and reflects very favorably on both Kyle and the educational program at Lincoln High School,” said Richard J Conwell, deputy liaison officer. Neisa Carsele and Zoe Kalantzis Awarded with LHS 1957 Class Scholarship

Neisa M. Carsele and Zoe Maria Kalantzis, high honor graduates in Lincoln High School’s 2018 class, have added their names to the list of winners of the LHS 1957 class scholarship. Carsele received the annual $5,000.00 scholarship along with a special award of $500.00 For the best essay. She will enroll in the division of undergraduate studies for biology at Penn State University. Kalantzis was given a $2000.00 scholarship. She will study biomedical engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. PHOTOS: Relay For Life

Many attended the Ellwood City’s “Be A Superhero” Relay for Life  Saturday on Lawrence Avenue. There was a “Chalk the Town” sidewalk art contest The included food, crafts and vendors along with musical entertainment. One Voice, Average Jane, Elvis Vaughn Hudspath, The’m Guys and Nickle Plated Revolver performed throughout the day at the relay. There was also a performance from the young dancers at Diamond Dance Academy. The evening wrapped up with a Luminara Dedication Ceremony, where decorated luminary bags were lit and lined Lawrence Avenue. Below is a gallery of images from the Relay for Life:

Ellwood City Area Public Library Activities For Week of June 4

Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: Tuesday, June 5, at 6:30 p.m. – “Family Laptime,” designed for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Ellwood City Lincoln High School enjoyed its graduation ceremony Thursday evening at Leslie Sabo Memorial Auditorium. A total of 120 students received diplomas at the commencement. Eight students graduated with high honors, including Michael J. Ace, Neisa M. Carsele, Katelyn V. Cole, Zoe M. Kalantzis, Dia A Neupauer, Kyle D. Smith, Dominick J. Spadafore, and Jaylin R. Tuttle. Ellwood City HOPE Festival and Back-to-School Giveaway

The Ellwood City area is filled with those who need help, support, assistance, guidance and above all encouragement. Weather it’s from a lost job, health problems,drug or alcohol, pregnancy, divorce or a host of other issues, people need love and hope. The concept is to bring a one-day festival to Ellwood City on Saturday August 25 from 10 am to 5 pm on Lawrence Ave between 4th street and 6th street and bring together agencies, both christian and secular who can provide that encouragement and help.
