Late Field Goal Lifts Riverside To 9-7 Victory Over Union

Gage Safran’s 38-yard field goal with 5:33 to play proved the difference in Riverside’s 9-7 victory over Union Thursday night at Union. The Panthers held a decisive advantage in total offense outgaining the host Scotties 364 to 147, but it wasn’t until a drive that began with nine minutes exact on the clock that they were able to take the lead back for good. Those who attended the Ellwood City Area Historical Society’s 38th season kick-off dinner held at the Connoquenessing Country Club on September 8th were treated to a toe-tapping music session by the incomparable Tony Barge. PennDOT Invites Pennsylvania High School Students to Join the Ninth Annual ‘Innovations Challenge’

Harrisburg– This week, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invited high school students throughout the state to participate in this year’s PennDOT Innovations Challenge, which encourages students to use their problem-solving, creative and strategic-thinking abilities to solve real-world transportation challenges in a competition among their peers. The Innovations Challenge is open to all students in grades 9-12, regardless of their school’s learning model. Ellwood City Girls Softball Hosting ‘Lil’ Angels In Outfield’ Movie Night On Saturday

Come out and enjoy a bonfire, smores and movie on Saturday at Stiefel Park. The Ellwood City Girls Softball League will be hosting the classic film, The Sandlot, beginning at dusk on the grounds of its field at Stiefel Park. (lower field) 7:00 p.m. is the estimated start and admission is a donation to the league. CCBC Increases Access To Cyber Careers With National Science Grant

Monaca, PA – Community College of Beaver County has received a $473,491 Advanced Technological Education (ATE) grant from the Natonal Science Foundation, the U.S. government’s independent science agency. The three-year grant will fund the college’s ACCESS: Creating Pathways to Advance Cybersecurity Career Education for STEM Success program to strengthen and expand STEM programs and train the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. Ellwood City Boys XC Team Off To Unbeaten Start To Season

The runners of Ellwood City boys and girls cross country teams began their regular season with a matchup at Laurel on Tuesday afternoon versus the host Spartans, Union, and Beaver County Christian. The Wolverine Varsity Boys took control of their section with a victory Tuesday and now stand at 3-0 on the season.  The boys managed to defeat the field at Laurel, placing their top 5 runners in the top 6 of the competition. Annual Ellwood City Oktoberfest Returns October 4th

Conceived by Wolves Club member Matt Walley in 2010, the Annual Ellwood City Oktoberfest turns 15 years old this year. It started out as a fundraiser for the club with games, local brewers, craft beers and food. Donnie Iris, member of the 1970s band Jaggerz made an appearance in 2011 with samples of his beer King Cool Light. The event benefitted the Library, Christmas in the Park and Wolves Club Scholarships. In 2012, the Wolves Club built relationships with other service clubs in the area. Halftime Lead Evaporates, Wolverines Fall To Neshannock

Ellwood City entered halftime of Friday night’s non-section match-up against Neshannock up two touchdowns, but the visiting Lancers rallied and knocked off the Wolverines 26-20 at Helling Stadium. Ethan Beaman hauled in an 8-yard touchdown pass from Jino Mozzocio with only 13 seconds remaining in regulation to provide the decisive score.
