ECPD Completes Tactical Entry & Life Saving Measure Training

The Ellwood City Police Department would like to thank Samuel Teolis for allowing the use of a vacant structure to conduct a tactical entry and life saving measure training. On Thursday, June 9th, the Police Department, along with the Ellwood City Fire Department, utilized Mr. Teolis’s vacant structure to complete this training as a team to assist in keeping our tactics fresh. WXED To Offer Basic Sign Language Classes In July

Did you know – there are 30 million hearing impaired people in the United States? Get your non-verbal cues in order and learn sign language this summer! Ellwood City radio station 107.3 WXED is offering a basic american sign language class starting in July. Ellwood City Summer Playground Program To Begin June 15

The Borough of Ellwood City is now taking registration forms for its Summer Playground Program for residents of Ellwood City. The program will begin on Wednesday, June 15th and it will run Monday through Friday (weather permitting and excluding holiday breaks), from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The program is for children 5-12 years of age. Lunch will be provided. Transportation is also available via bus. PIAA Playoffs: Panthers Fall To Neshannock In Extra Innings

Thursday’s game at against Neshannock was a heartbreaker for the Riverside Panthers, as they lost an early lead, could not capitalize late, and end up on the losing end of the PIAA Class 2A quarterfinal contest in extra innings. The game was tied at four with Neshannock batting in the top of the eleventh when Jake Rynd singled on a 2-2 count, scoring the game winning run to advance the Lancers to the PIAA semifinals. John George DeGruttola, Jr., 93

John George DeGruttola, Jr., 93, of Davis Road died Thursday, June 9, 2022 at his residence in Ellwood City. He was born on March 27, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA a son of the late John G. and Josephine (Nessenthaler) DeGruttola, Sr. He married Lucy Marie (Memo) DeGruttola on September 6, 1952, she survives in Ellwood City. Mr. DeGruttola was a Structural Iron Worker for Local #207 in Youngstown, OH, retiring after 43 years. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in Fort Bragg as a paratrooper. Mr. DeGruttola was an avid sport fan and coached little leagues. He enjoyed…

The Municipal Woman’s Club of Ellwood City held their annual May banquet at the Calvin Church on May 23, 2022 at 6 pm. Toastmistress, Nancy Fenton welcomed members and guests, the Invocation was given by Kathy Gorzkowski, and the delicious banquet dinner was prepared and catered by member, Cheryl Valvano, with the help of her husband Tony, niece Lora Lohr, and Phyllis Conway. Riverside Holds Off Mount Union, Advances In PIAA Playoffs

The Riverside Panthers got out to a five-run lead in the fourth inning and held on for a 5-3 victory over District 6 champion Mount Union on Monday in the opening round of the PIAA Class-2A Playoffs. Riverside got things moving in the first inning, when Bo Fornataro singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run. Ellwood City Tennis Set To Host A Mini-Clinic

Ellwood City Tennis will be conducting a tennis clinic for any boy or girl interested in learning the basics of tennis. The tennis clinic will be held on June 27th, 28th, and 29th, 2022 at the Ewing Park Courts from 10:00 a.m to 11:15 a.m. Any child ages 5-12 is eligible to sign up and participate.
