Brayden McClure Wins 3rd Place Medal at Junior High MAC Wrestling

Ellwood City 7th-grader Brayden McClure won a third place medal at the Junior High MAC Wrestling Tournament that was held on Friday, January 6th at Freedom High School.

McClure recorded three wins by fall on his way to the championship podium in the 94-pound weight class.

The Wolverines Junior High Wrestling team consists of wrestlers, McClure, Cheyene Berglund, Nathan Chandler, Jaiden Delawder, Colten Gullo, and Jordan Quintanilla. The team will next battle North Catholic HS on January 11th. [VIEW FULL SCHEDULE]

At the varsity level, the Ellwood City Wolverines wrestling team placed 10th out of 16 teams in the Ed Driscoll MAC Tournament also held at Freedom High School on Saturday, January 7th.

After strong performances, Logan Shriver (107 pounds weight class) and Derek Allen (114 pounds) were both defeated in third place matches.   Shriver fell to Cade Stern (West Allegheny) maj. dec. while Allen was pinned by Jacob Stetz (Montour).

After being defeated in the quarterfinals, Shriver collected two consecutive victories in the consolation rounds, pinning Darick Niebling (Payne) (New Castle), at 1:38, and Derrick Reilly (Hopewell), at 1:18, to enter his third place match.

Allen collected an opening round victory, pinning Camden Bruce (Freedom Area), at 1:44, before falling in the championship semifinals. Allen rebounded with another victory in the consolation semifinals, pinning Nathan LaFayette (Moon), at 3:00, to earn his third place match.
