Ellwood City was defeated 49-14 by Blackhawk Friday evening at Helling Stadium in non-section play.
The Cougars used a strong ground attack to jump out to an early advantage as running back Brayden McCarthy scored a pair first half rushing touchdowns and was among four different Cougars who scored offensively. McCarthy finished with 122 yards rushing on only four attempts, he also added a 20-yard touchdown reception as Blackhawk led 49-0 at halftime.
Giulian Frisk scored on a 14-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and Grayson Hartman returned a fumble for a 47-yard defensive touchdown in the fourth quarter for the host Wolverines.
Frisk finished with 52 yards rushing on 11 carries while Kamron Hockenberry hauled in a 35-yard pass offensively for Ellwood City.
At halftime Nina Franitti was named 2026 Homecoming Queen.
Maykel Cuevas was named Homecoming King at a pep rally earlier in the day.
Ellwood City falls to 0-4 (0-0 Section 4-3A) on the season and next will travel to Shady Side Academy on Friday at 7:00 PM.
