Tickets are now available and on sale for Friday’s home playoff game. Ellwood City hosts Keystone Oaks at 7:00 p.m.
All tickets must be a WPIAL ticket which may be purchased online at GOFAN.com. There will be limited tickets available at the gate.
Super Fan, Season ticket, and Senior citizen passes will NOT be honored. Price of tickets are $7.00 for everyone. NO student tickets will be made available.
Visiting Keystone Oaks (4-6 Overall, 4-2 Class 2A Century) is led by senior quarterback Owen Gearhart and 6-foot-6 wide receiver/linebacker Carmen Pellarin.
Gearhart scampered for 200 yards and two touchdowns to lead Keystone Oaks to a 21-14 win over Waynesburg Central on October 10th but the Eagles lost their following two games, including a 55-0 loss at the hands of #1 seed Seton LaSalle, and enter the playoffs on a current two-game losing streak. The team started 0-3 before rallying for three consecutive section victories in September. The Eagles put a scare into Mohawk before losing 35-28 in the first round of the 2024 playoffs.
For #6 seeded Ellwood City, its season started out on the wrong foot as they fell to Laurel 43-14 to open its regular season. A second loss to an Class A opponent, Neshannock, put the Wolverines at 1-2 before they responded with two consecutive victories. A surprising loss to New Brighton and defeat at the hands of #2 seed Western Beaver had the Wolverines under .500 but the team responded with three consecutive victories to round out the regular season.
Ellwood City defeated three of four MAC Conference teams that are represented in the playoffs. Laurel and Neshannock also each have earned playoff berths in Class A showcasing the strength of schedule the Wolverines endured in the regular season.
Offensively for Ellwood City, the offense features a balanced ground and air attack with running back Richard Cureton leading the ground charge with 732 yards and 10 touchdowns on the season. Tyler Smiley boasts 1,452 yards passing and 17 touchdowns through the air. Smiley is also 2nd on the team with 411 yards rushing. Dom Hogue leads the team with 42 receptions and is has five receiving touchdowns, tied with DaiLonn Currie for team best.
The Wolverines defense compiled 13 sacks, forced 11 fumbles and picked off 12 passes during the regular season. Cameron Mills led the defense with 70 tackles and two fumble recoveries. Tyler Amicone and Currie each intercepted three passes while Colton Gullo posted a team-high 3.5 sacks.
With a victory Friday, the Wolverines would advance to the quarterfinals for a second consecutive year and would face Class 2A Allegheny Conference Champion and 3-seeded Steel Valley (7-3 Overall).
