Lexi Fluharty finished 1st Overall in the WPIAL Class-A Cross Country Championships at White Oak Park in McKeesport on Thursday.
The Riverside senior finished with a time of 18:54.50. Fellow Panther runners Brooke Wissinger (20:48.10) and Isabella D’Allessandro (30:39.90) helped pace the Riverside team effort in the girls Class-A Championships. All three Lady Panthers have qualified for the upcoming PIAA State Championships. The Mohawk Warriors claimed the team championship, with a total team score of 127 – just one point ahead of Riverview and Winchester Thurston.
For the boys cross country, the Ellwood City Wolverines finished 3rd place overall as a team in the Class-A Championship – qualifying for the PIAA Championships next week.
The Wolverines were led by Drew Steffler who finished 17th overall (17:24.50). Nick Wise (17:41.50, 26th Place), Bradley Custer (17:43.70, 27th Place), Colten Crizer (17:48.50, 29th Place), and Dante Venezie (18:13.30, 42nd Place) rounded out the scoring for Ellwood City.
Devin Montileone finished 8th overall in Class-A for Riverside with a time of 16:55.70. The Panthers finished 19th overall as a team in the WPIAL championship. Brady Pettner, Cole Grinnen, Blake Palmer, and Donavan Hutner rounded out the Riverside runners.
Riverview finished first overall as a team, with Eden Christan placing 2nd overall in the team championship standings.
NEXT UP: The 2023 PIAA Girls’ and Boys’ Cross Country Championships are schedule to take place Saturday, November 4th at Parkview XC Course at Hershey, PA. For individuals, the top 20 finishers not on one of the qualifying teams advance in Class A boys and girls and 2A boys. The top 15 qualify for 3A girls and 2A girls, and the top 10 move on for 3A boys.
