WEEKLY ROUND-UP: Ellwood City Sports

ELLWOOD CITY CROSS COUNTRY:
Ellwood City swept Beaver Falls and Shenango handedly on Tuesday. Four Wolverine runners took the top four spots in the boys overall.

Junior Bradley Custer led the way with an overall low time of 16:57.31.

The strong team effort earned a 15-50 win over Beaver Falls and 16-49 win over Shenango.

Ellwood City is now 6-0 this season and will set their eyes on a match against crosstown rival Riverside on Tuesday, October 3rd at 3:30 p.m.

ELLWOOD CITY GIRLS VOLLEYBALL:
The Ellwood City girls volleyball team split a pair of matches this week and now hold a 7-4 record on its regular season.

On Tuesday, the Lady Wolverines were defeated on the road by the section-leading Beaver Bobcats. The team fell in straight sets 25-17, 25-11, 25-20 to the undefeated Bobcats.

On Thursday, the team responded with a four set victory over rival Riverside (3-8 Overall, 2-6 Section 2A-1). After the Panthers took a tight first set 25-23, the Wolverines collected victories in the next three sets to earn the match victory. A 27-25 second set victory tied the match and Ellwood City then made quick work of the visiting Panthers with 25-11 victories in both the third and fourth sets.

Ellwood City, with a 5-3 record in Section 2A-1, next travel for a 7:30 p.m. match-up on Tuesday against the Mohawk Warriors.

ELLWOOD CITY TENNIS:
The Ellwood City tennis team swept Beaver Falls on Monday to complete their regular season with a 3-5 overall record.  Kailyn Hamilton (6-2, 6-0), Tess Folino (6-0, 6-0) and Sophia Agnew (6-0, 6-0) each made quick work of their opponents in singles play. Lacey Kennedy & Mia Meredith (6-0, 6-0) and Meredith McCommons & Kiley LeViere (6-3, 6-1) collected victories in the doubles action.  Ellwood City finished 2-5 in section play.

ELLWOOD CITY SOCCER:
Ellwood City fell to Hopewell 10-1 on Tuesday and the Wolverines remain winless on the season (0-8-0). Aiden Huth scored the lone goal for Ellwood City on Tuesday. Ellwood City’s next match is Tuesday, October 3rd at 7:00 PM @ Beaver.

ELLWOOD CITY GOLF:
Jordan Keller took 1st place in the Tam O’Shanter Boys High School Invitational. Keller was among five Ellwood City golfers who helped the team place 2nd overall. Keller narrowly missed the cut at the WPIAL Individual Championships on Monday, his round of 85 (+13) placed in 38th overall out of the 89 qualified golfers.

REC WRESTLING:
The REC (Riverside-Ellwood City) Youth Wrestling will hold sign-ups for on Monday, October 2nd, Tuesday, October 3rd and Thursday, October. 5th in North Side Elementary School cafeteria.

Sign-ups will be held from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm. Sign-up sheets will be available during that time and are also available to view here.
