Riverside Finishes 7th In WPIAL Swimming Championships, Roth Earns Two Silver Medals

Panther swimmers Peter Ruggeri, Nick Young, Nathan Goff, Gavin Frederick, Michael Styn, Ryan Turner, and Joseph Roth represented Riverside High School this past weekend at the WPIAL Class 2A Swimming Championships. Riverside placed 7th overall with a combined total of 126 points after two days of competition in the championships held at the University of Pittsburgh’s Trees Pool on February 29th and March 1st. “Our boys fell short of some of the goals we had set our sights on this season,” said coach Alaina Marshall afterwards. Fluharty Claims WPIAL Individual Championship, Ellwood City Finishes 3rd Overall

Lexi Fluharty finished 1st Overall in the WPIAL Class-A Cross Country Championships at White Oak Park in McKeesport on Thursday. The Riverside senior finished with a time of 18:54.50. Fellow Panther runners Brooke Wissinger (20:48.10) and Isabella D’Allessandro (30:39.90) helped pace the Riverside team effort in the girls Class-A Championships. All three Lady Panthers have qualified for the upcoming PIAA State Championships. Alden Wetzel Earns WPIAL Gold, Seven Panthers Qualify For PIAA

Riverside Panther runner Alden Wetzel earned WPIAL gold Wednesday, finishing in 1st place in the 400m dash at the WPIAL Individual Championship meet at Slippery Rock University. The junior finished with a time of 49.94 to earn gold. Wetzel also placed 6th in the high jump with a mark of 5’9″. Wetzel joined six other Panther individuals, and two relay teams, whom qualified for the PIAA State Championships next weekend in Shippensburg.
