Boehm Victorious In Pitcher’s Duel For Riverside
Both teams were strong on the mound Friday, but the Riverside Panthers defeated South Side 3-1 behind the arm of Gunnar Boehm.
Boehm allowed just four hits to South Side and earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for Riverside (7-1 overall). He lasted seven innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out ten and walking one.
Riverside had ten hits in the game and never trailed. Austin Dambach and Ty Thellman each had two-hit performances for the Panthers offense. Dambach doubled and tripled in the contest and knocked in two runs for the victors.
Casey Jones took the loss for South Side. He lasted six and two-thirds innings, allowing ten hits and three runs while striking out six. Jones went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead South Side in hits.
Wolverines Clinch Lead in Seventh In Comeback Defeat Over New Brighton
The Ellwood City Wolverines stole the lead late in the game in a 2-1 victory over New Brighton on Friday.
The Wolverines trailed batting in the top of the seventh until Sam DiCaprio doubled in the tying run and later came around the score the winning run for Ellwood City (3-5 overall).
The pitching was strong on both sides with only eight combined hits in the contest. The Ellwood City Wolverines pitchers combined to struck out five, while New Brighton starter Jeramie Hill sat down three in a complete game defeat.
Noah Rinker was the winning pitcher for Ellwood City. He surrendered one run on two hits over three and a third innings, striking out three. Ryan Hampton started the game for the Wolverines. He surrendered zero runs on two hits over three and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking one.
DiCaprio, Blaze Chambers, Anthony Roth, and Ricky Pitrelli each collected hits to lead the Ellwood City Wolverines offense.
Jake Francona went 2-for-3 at the plate for New Brighton.
