PHOTOS: Wolverines Run Away From Carlynton Late, Earn 25-12 Victory

Ellwood City used a 17-yard fourth quarter touchdown run by running back Elijah Palmer-McCane to break at 12-12 tie and lead the Wolverines to its 25-12 victory over Carlynton Friday night at Helling Stadium.

Palmer-McCane rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns on the evening as the Wolverines collected over 200 yards on the ground rushing as a team.

Palmer-McCane opened up the scoring with a first quarter touchdown run as Ellwood City led early. Senior Michael Walters hauled in a 7-yard touchdown pass from Chris Smiley to put the Wolverines up two scores.

Carlynton rallied to tie the game by way of two lengthy scores by running back Ryan Lewis. First, Lewis broke free for a 52-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter and in the third quarter scampered for a 48-yard touchdown to knot the game at 12.

After the Palmer-McCane score broke the tie, a 3-yard touchdown run by Smiley with just over three minutes remaining in the non-conference contest iced the game for the host Wolverines.

Smiley finished 10-20 passing for 119 yards including 88 yards to Walters who hauled in a game-high six receptions for the Wolverines. Ellwood City collected 24 first downs and did not punt in the game.

Defensively, Kaden Docchio led the team with six tackles and two sacks while Trent Schilling collected three tackles for losses for the Wolverines.

Carlynton was the victim of 17 penalties in the contest.

Ellwood City (2-1 Overall) with open up section play and host Freedom on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Helling Stadium.

SHENANGO 24 – Riverside 19
Robbie Janis ran wild for the visiting Panthers Friday night, but a late score by Shenango earned the Wildcats a 24-19 victory.

Janis rushed for three first half touchdowns as Riverside led 19-6 midway through the second quarter but the Panthers could not contain the Wildcats air attack as Shenango scored three unanswered touchdowns to rally.

Quarterback Sam Meyers led the Wildcat air attack, finishing with 276 yards passing and three touchdowns. Meyers accounted for the fourth and final score for Shenango with a game-deciding 2-yard touchdown run with just over one minute remaining in the contest. Colton Fedrizzi hauled in a game-high nine receptions for 172 yards and three touchdown receptions.

Zach Hare collected a team-high six receptions for 74 yards in defeat for Riverside. Janis finished the game with 157 yards rushing on 22 carries.

The Panthers (0-2 Overall) next hosts Mohawk on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
