POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

BURGLARY:
A 37-year-old man has been charged with burglary after an incident on June 28th in Wampum. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 11:53 a.m., police were dispatched to Wampum Park Housing complex for reports of burglary. Video surveillance shows Robert Grim arriving at the complex at approximately 2:03 a.m. and entering through a window located at the rear. A victim stated she woke up and discovered many things inside her apartment missing, namely her Xanax prescription, cash, and a debit card. The victim believes her son, Grim, was responsible for the burglary as he has stolen from her in the past. The victim’s bank related the debit card was used in New Castle and video surveillance obtained shows Grim entering the store and withdrawing money from an ATM.

THEFT:
Susan Lutz, 61, of Ellwood City is charged with theft after an incident at an Ellwood City Dollar General on July 6th. According to a criminal complaint, police received a call in regards to a retail theft from the store manager stating Lutz came into the store and had taken items without paying. Video footage shows Lutz taking a bottle of Excedrin Relief valued at $11.95, Dial body wash valued at $4.50, and Nexium heart burn relief valued at $36.45. The manager stated she knew Lutz because she was charged with another retail theft in 2016 at the same store location. Lutz is charged with Retail Theft and Defiant Trespasser.



FRAUD:
A resident of Butler has pleaded guilty to charges relating to Social Security fraud, United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung announced this week. Amy Lynn Snow, age 54, pleaded guilty to one count of Theft of Government Funds before Chief United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak. According to information presented to the court, from Aug. 7, 2013, through Sept. 30, 2017, Snow falsely reported to the Social Security Administration that her spouse was not a member of her household knowing that his status as a member of the household and his income would affect her entitlement to Social Security Income benefits. The amount of loss suffered by the Social Security Administration by reason of Snow’s theft was $45,422.61. Sentencing will be scheduled by the court. The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant. Snow has been granted bond pending sentencing. The Social Security Administration – Office of Inspector General conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Snow.
