Ellwood City Council Approves Street Vacations to Make Way for Sheetz Store

Ellwood City Borough Council voted to approve the vacation of Locust Way from Fountain Avenue to Glen Avenue and Fountain Avenue from 5th Street to Locust Way during Monday’s regular meeting.

The only “No” vote came from Councilman Jim Barry. Councilwoman Judith Dici was absent from the meeting.

During a public hearing of the Ellwood City Borough Council on November 8, officials representing Sheetz presented plans for the proposed store.

The 6,070 square foot store, as presented, would be anchored between Glen Avenue, Fountain Avenue, 5th Street, and Locust Way—across the street from McDonald’s.

According to Ryan Wotus, attorney with Goldberg, Kamin & Garvin, LLP, who spoke during the November 8 meeting, the properties to be vacated in that area are currently under agreement with RBG Development.

David Mastrostephano, manager of Sheetz engineering permit, said on November 8 that 14 properties are being developed.

He also discussed plans to make a portion of Glen Avenue two way as well as providing expanded access to the light at Fountain and 5th.

Based on the drawings presented at the meeting, the gas pumps would flow parallel with 5th street— directly across from McDonalds—with the store positioned behind the bay of pumps. Mastrostephano said the main entrance of the store would face Fountain Avenue.

Currently, the closest Sheetz locations to Ellwood City are seven miles south in Beaver Falls and and nine miles north in New Castle according to Google Maps.

  1. This is Great News, I guess. Well, unless you own B&B, 7 Eleven, Red Hot or that little Joint across from Red Hot. For All them, Not so much. I grew up in Baden, there used to be 5 or 6 small Gas/Convenience stores, then Sheetz came along. Know how many now? Guess.
