Sheetz Gets Ellwood City Council Approval for Development Plans

As far as the Ellwood City Borough Council is concerned, Sheetz is welcome to bring a business to Ellwood City.

Council passed three motions Monday evening to help pave the way for development:

  1. A motion to approve the request by Sheetz, Inc. to have a Sheetz convenience story with self-serve sale of motor fuels at 5th Street/Glen Avenue which is a Conditional Use in a c-3; GN Zoning District.
  2. A motion to approve the request by Sheetz, Inc. to build a 6,070 square foot Sheetz Convenient Story with five multi-pump dispensers with a canopy on Fifth Street between Fountain Ave and Glen Ave.
  3. A motion to approve the request by Sheetz, Inc. to convert 15 properties into one buildable lot for a Sheetz convenience store and service station on Fifth Street between Fountain Ave and Glen Ave.

Councilman James Barry has been the sole “No” vote throughout the process.

Talk around town began in September regarding a possible Sheetz store, but it wasn’t until a public hearing of the Ellwood City Borough Council on November 8 that “talk” was confirmed. Officials representing Sheetz presented plans for the proposed store at that meeting.

The 6,070 square foot store, as presented on November 8, 2020, would be anchored between Glen Avenue, Fountain Avenue, 5th Street, and Locust Way—across the street from McDonald’s.

Based on the drawings presented at the November 8 meeting, the gas pumps would flow parallel with 5th street— directly across from McDonalds—with the store positioned behind the bay of pumps. David Mastrostephano, manager of Sheetz engineering permit said the main entrance of the store would face Fountain Avenue.

Following the first public hearing, Ellwood City Borough Council voted to approve the vacation of Locust Way from Fountain Avenue to Glen Avenue and Fountain Avenue from 5th Street to Locust Way on November 15.
