Traffic Stop Leads to One Arrest and One Citation

Taylor Foley, 21, was placed under arrest by Ellwood City Police for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and Kory Coles, 29, was issued a citation for disorderly conduct after a traffic stop led to a car search and field sobriety test.

On May 11, Officers patrolling College St. attempted to make a right hand turn onto Ellwood Ave. and found a car parked at an angle preventing the movement of the cruiser. Officers requested the driver roll down the window.

Foley rolled down the window and officers observed a strong marijuana odor from inside the vehicle. Officers requested Foley move the vehicle so the intersection was no longer obstructed.

Foley agreed to move the vehicle and proceeded to do so in an unwanton disregard for property. She struck a rock/ brick wall in the rear yard of 520 Orchard Ave. She knocked down a wall and damaged some bricks. Officers then conducted a traffic stop.

Kory Coles was the driver side passenger, Coles admitted to smoking marijuana to officers. He had a few small buds left over on his shirt. David Kimmel, 29, was the backseat right passenger.

All parties were asked to exit the vehicle. Coles was searched and had no other substances on him. A vehicle search was conducted for other drugs. Officers found small buds leftover from Cole smoking the marijuana. Officer issued a citation to Coles for disorderly conduct. Kimmel was released from the incident.

Officer noticed a strong alcohol odor remaining on Foley’s breath. Officer had her perform field sobriety tests. Foley fails to perform all field sobriety tests.

Officers placed Foley under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Officers further searched the vehicle and found two mixed drinks in the front console cup holders. Foley admitted to mixing Grey Goose Vodka and Pineapple juice. Foley was transported to Ellwood City Hospital for a blood withdrawal to test alcohol levels.
