POLICE: Weekly Blotter

HARASSMENT:
The Pennsylvania State Police investigated a domestic violence incident on August 8th on Portersville Road in Perry Township. While investigating this incident, the Accused was charged with Harassment.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS:
On August 8th Pennsylvania State Police New Castle responded to a hit and run incident on State Route 18 in North Beaver Township. Unit Two, a 2019 Ford Transit was traveling North on State Route 18 when a orange Chevy truck going South towards Wampum crossed into his lane of travel and side swiped him. The truck fled South and did not stop. The Chevy’s driver side mirror got ripped off and was left at the scene. Both vehicles had moderate damage to the entire drivers side. Anyone with any information on the owner of the orange truck, please contact Trooper McBride at the State Police in New Castle.

On August 7th, Pennsylvania State Police New Castle was dispatched to a one vehicle rollover accident on Moravia Road in North Beaver Township. On the scene it was found that the driver lost control of his truck during a burnout. He hit the embankment and rolled onto its roof. The driver was entrapped and had to be freed by the North Beaver Fire Department. Three of the four occupants were taken to Noga EMS to St.E’s Hospital injuries. Charges are pending due to blood work results of the driver.

WARRANT MISDEMEANOR/ FELONY:
On August 3rd a traffic stop was conducted on Mile Hill Road in Perry Township on a 1999 Jeep Wrangler for non-illumination of its registration plate. Upon further investigation, it was determined the front-right passenger had an active/valid warrant for his arrest for failure to appear for driving under the influence of drugs. Furthermore, the rear-right passenger had an active/valid warrant for his arrest to failure to appear for a possession of drugs charge. Both warrants were confirmed and both men were safely and successfully placed into custody and then committed to the authority of the Lawrence County Jail.

FAILURE TO REPORT ACCIDENT:
Ronald Fogel, 62, of Fombell was charged with Failure To Report An Accident. Officers responded to a hit and run incident on Fountain Avenue. Unit One failed to yield to oncoming traffic and in turn struck Unit Two leaving damage to the drivers side rear door, rear panel, rear fender and rear tire. Unit Two pulled over and stopped in a parking lot while Unit One continued to drive only to stopping to check the damage of the vehicle and pick up pieces of the vehicle but then proceeded to drive away. A witness who had seen everything happen reported Unit One. Footage of the accident was observed and it was observed that a male had been operating the vehicle at the time. Ronald Fogel was identified as the operator. Fogel arrived the the ECPD to report he was a victim of a hit and run accident. It was then advised to Fogel that footage of the incident had showed him at fault and him leaving the scene. Fogel then admitted that he pulled through the intersection without yielding to oncoming traffic.

POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA:
Eric Renn, 50, of Enon Valley was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Officers were dispatched to a narcotics complaint to Park Avenue. Micheal Westerman had stated that someone left a plastic baggie containing syringes and a burnt spoon on his front steps. Upon arrival, Westerman told Officers that there were two men that have been living on Park Avenue and they were not supposed to be living there. Westerman told Officers that the men had been hired to do work on the house but were not given permission to stay at the house. Officers then went to the said house and made contact with a woman. Officers observed numerous white, yellow, and blue pills lying on a table. The woman told Officers that Renn had been staying there and also stated that he might not know he is not allowed to be there. Officers made contact with Renn, Renn told Officers that he had made an agreement that allowed him to stay in the house. Officers asked permission to search the house and Renn said he would like an attorney. After a search warrant was obtained the following items were discovered. Numerous burnt marijuana roaches, 25 used syringes, four burnt spoons with residue, one smoking bowl and two smoking pipes, a marijuana grinder, 1 gram of loose marijuana, and multiple different pills. All the items were seized and were logged and placed into evidence.

Jason Hannold, 26, of Meadville was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia on August 7th. Officers were dispatched to Fountain Avenue for a report of two adults passed out inside a Ford truck. Upon arrival, Officers asked if either of the adults needed medical attention, they both said no. After asking Hannold tp exit the vehicle, a clear glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine fell to the ground. Officers asked for consent to search the vehicle, consent was denied. Officers allowed Hannold and the other passenger to gather clothing and items necessary for their children. Plassmeyers Towing was called and was asked to take the vehicle back to ECPD so that it would be secure while a search warrant was obtained. After a search warrant was issued, four butane lighters, two glass pipes with with burned and white residue, a silver metal container that contained trace amounts white powder suspected to be crystal methamphetamine were discovered.

Michael Caccia, 55, of New Castle was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia on August 3rd. Caccia was stopped for a suspended registration. Upon making contact with Caccia he advised he was not trying to avoid Officers and that he was just trying to put gas in his car. After running information, it was made aware that Caccia had multiple AOPC warrants. Caccia was explained the warrants and was patted down. Located in his front left pocket, a crack pipe with suspected residue was discovered. Caccia was asked if there was any further contraband to which he related that in the trunk of his vehicle there were multiple items of paraphernalia. Caccia was not wanted on the previous warrants, his information was updated and he was released.

DUI:
Ryan Smiley, 33, of Ellwood City was charged with Driving Under the Influence on August 7th. Officers observed a gray Volkswagen drive at a high rate of speed and fail to properly signal a turn on Mount Vernon Drive. A traffic stop was conducted on Mount Vernon Drive. Upon contact with the driver, odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected as well as Smiley’s speech being delayed and slurred. Smiley was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety tests. Smiley stated that since 3:00 p.m. he had drank six pack of beer at home and a few a the bar. Smiley did perform well of the field sobriety tests, he then was advised he was under arrest for Driving Under the Influence.
