One Charged After Car Crash on July 4

Ivy Frederick was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after making a too sharp turn and hitting another vehicle.

Jessica and Mark Bucci were parked at the stop sign heading west on Wayne Avenue when a red Cadillac Escalade made a too sharp turn and struck their vehicle.

Officers arrived at the scene and spoke to Frederick about hitting the other vehicle. Officers noticed Frederick was stumbling on her words numerous times and was unable to maintain balance at all times throughout the course of investigating the accident.

Police noted Frederick’s eyes to be glossy and her pupils pinpointed. She stated she had one, Mikes Hard Lemonade earlier in the day, according to an Ellwood City Police Department report.

Frederick consented to a field sobriety test and failed. She was placed in handcuffs and put in the back of the patrol car, then transported to Ellwood City Hospital for a blood draw. Frederick’s blood alcohol content was .251%.

Frederick was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Why is this news? No one was killed or even injured in this accident. I don’t remember your reporters doing a story about an individual traffic DUI violation with no grievous injuries in the past. There are, unfortunately, arrests for Driving Under the Influence often, I am curious as to why you felt the need to spotlight this one? Not excusing the decision to drive while intoxicated, but it is inappropriate to call attention to this individually. Can we expect a “Police Blotter” type format from your publication for future articles?

Our local politicians should be questioned far more than the local reporters. Time would be better spend making a difference, not a judgment.

We should question our local politicians before our reports.
