Riverside Boys Qualify For State Track & Field Championships

After taking home their third consecutive WPIAL Track & Field Championship, the Panther team victories seem to continue on.

Ten boys on the track and field team have qualified for the state championships within eight relay and independent events.

The relay teams going are the 4×800 relay team consisting of Ty Fluharty, Chase Grinnell, Garrett Safern, and Colby Belczyk placed 4th, the 4×100 relay took 2nd place, while also gaining a new school record of 43.55, which consisted of Brett Hart, Jackson Coyne, Nate Sciarro, Calvin Wetzel, and the 4×400 relay team consisting of Hart, Coyne, Wetzel, and Alex Nour who placed 1st.

For hurdles, Riverside will be sending Wetzel and Hart who had placed 1st and 2nd (respectively) in the 300 hurdles and Peyton Harris who placed 5th for the 110 hurdles.

Belczyk will be running the 800 and 1600 where he had scored 2nd and 4th in. Sciarro will be participating in the long jump, seeing as he had placed 2nd and tied his own school record of 22’2″.

Also, congratulations to the Riverside Girls 3200 meter relay for winning a metal and finishing 8th.

The state meet will be taking place on Friday, May 24 at Shippensburg University.
