Rose Sberna, 88

Mrs. Rose Sberna, 88, of Ellwood City passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at her daughters residence.

Mrs. Sberna was born on April 17, 1929 in Ellwood City to the late Joseph and Lucy Frisk Segretti. She had graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1947 and from the Garfield Business School in Beaver Falls. Rose had worked at the Eastvalle Clay Products for 4 years as a bookkeeper. She later worked for the Ellwood City Area School District in the Business and Superintendents Office as a secretary for 23 years. She retired in 1996. Rose is a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish and the Holy Redeemer Christian Mothers. She was an active member of the Salvation Army and was awarded their Volunteer of the Year Award in 2002. She was well known by her family and friends for her amazing baking skills especially with making biscotti’s and pizzelle’s.

Rose is survived by her daughters Melissa (Terry) Taylor of Perry Twp. and Luanne Sberna and her partner David Brezniak of Burlington, VT, her son Martin (Colleen) Sberna of Midlothian, VI, her grandchildren Matthew Begley, Adam (Kim Barnes) Begly, Micah (Audrey) Begley, Brooke Sberna, Anthony Joseph Sberna, Katie (Kyle) Sweeney, and Brett Mashteare, and her great-grandchildren Lauryl Rose, Cameron, Kendall, Mia, Isaiah, Kaylani, Nico, Ona, Ari, Eva, Eli, and Carter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alfred Sberna whom she married on April 19, 1952 and passed away on April 17, 2016, her son Matthew J. Sberna in 1966, her sister Theresa Ippolito, and her brother Louis Segretti.

Rose’s family would like to thank her caregivers Alaina Mazzocco and LuAnn Hart, the staff of Home Instead, and Vitas Hospice for making it possible for Rose to be at home.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from Noon until the time of the Blessing Service at 2:00 pm with Father Mark Thomas officiating at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services. Interment will follow at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Rose’s name may be made to the Salvation Army or to the Ellwood City Area Public Library.
