Joan M. Straw, 78, of Ellwood City passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016 in her residence.
Joan was born on Jan. 16, 1938 in Ellwood City to the late Toney J. and Marie Kohl Straw. She is a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1955. Joan also graduated from Penn State University, Beaver Campus, where she earned her Real Estate Certification. She had worked for the Humphrey, Humphrey, & Sewell agency as a legal secretary for several years. She later worked as a Real Estate Agent along side her father at the Toney J. Straw Real Estate Agency. In 1972, Joan became a Real Estate Broker, and in 1975 she acquired her fathers business the Toney J. Straw Real Estate Agency of which she was presently still operating.
Joan loved Ellwood City and working with the people she served, she also enjoyed cooking. She was also well known for her love of the color purple.
She is survived by her son and his wife, Thomas (Grace) Crawford of Ellwood City, her step-granddaughters, Megan Foley, and Tiffany Hafner both of Pittsburgh, her sister-in-law, Diane Straw of Shenango Twp., and her many dear and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Robert Straw.
Family and friends will be received on Friday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. and Cremation Services. A Service for Joan will be held on Friday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Tony Cortese of the Living Water Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery.
