Several local athletes performed at the 2025 WPIAL Track & Field Championships on Wednesday at the William C. Lennox Track at Slippery Rock University, with some qualifying for the PIAA Championships Ellwood City senior Delaney Sturgeon qualified for two events while Kaden Doccio and the boys relay team will each advance to the PIAA. After its qualifying victory last week at West Mifflin, the Ellwood City boys track and field team will turn its focus to the WPIAL Championships on Tuesday. The team earned its first-ever playoff win knocking off five foes in the qualifier last Thursday. The WPIAL Team AA Championships will be held at Peter’s Township Stadium: Confluence Financial Partners Stadium beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Riverside standout Joe Reed headlined a group of Panthers who qualified for the PIAA Track and Field Championships with their individual performances Wednesday at the 2023 WPIAL Individual Championships at Slippery Rock University.
