COACH TALK: Ellwood City Track Under New Tutelage

The Ellwood City Track & Field team will be under new tutelage this spring and the group of athletes will look to overcome a bit of adversity. $3.3 million dollars in renovations for Helling Stadium will begin in April. The work includes the installation of a new artificial turf field, new lighting, and a completely redone track. Work that will uproot the Wolverines from a home track, forcing practices to be held at neighboring Riverside’s track facility and all meets to be on the road this season, but none of that will affect the team’s performance according to new coach…


Riverside Boys Track Collects Four WPIAL Individual Championships

The Riverside boys track team collected a total of four championships at the WPIAL Individual Championship meet at Slippery Rock University on Wednesday. Colby Belczyk put on a show. Belczyk won the 800m in 1:54.41 setting a new school record, breaking his own record of 1:54.99 and then teamed up with Alden Wetzel, Brody Barton, and Ty Fluharty, to win the 4×400 relay team with a personal best time of 3:27.65. The Panthers set WPIAL history Wednesday becoming the first Class 2A track team to win four consecutive titles. The championship also makes Riverside the only Class 2A track team to win 7 WPIAL Championships. Riverside defeated Greensburg Central Catholic (84-64), South Park (95-55) and Shenango (77-73) to capture its 2021 championship. The Riverside boys track & field team have chance to win a fourth straight team track championship on Wednesday at the WPIAL Track Championships at Peters Township. After taking home their third consecutive WPIAL Track & Field Championship, the Panther team victories seem to continue on. Ten boys on the track and field team have qualified for the state championships within eight relay and independent events. Riverside Boys Track & Field Advance to WPIAL Championships

Two-time defending WPIAL champion Riverside boys track & field team advanced to the WPIAL championships this week after semifinal meet victory on Tuesday. The Riverside boys will go for their third title in a row and will attempt to knock off Class AA challengers Shenango, South Park and Waynesburg.  Last year the Panthers defeated Mohawk, South Park, and Freedom to claim its championship.
