The Lady Wolverines surged in the fourth inning to earn another upset in its WPIAL Class-3A playoff journey. Ellwood City beat #3 seeded Waynesburg 7-4 on Thursday to advance to the WPIAL semifinals. Gibbons, Wolverines Advance In WPIAL Playoffs With 2-1 Extra Inning Victory

Ryan Gibbons spent his time on the mound avoiding bats with an outstanding pitching effort and knocked in the game’s winning run at the plate, putting the bat on the ball and putting the Wolverines in the WPIAL quarterfinals. Gibbons, who struck out 14 in eight innings of one-hit ball, put down a squeeze bunt to score the winning run from third base to propel the Wolverines to an opening round 2-1 victory over Keystone Oaks Thursday afternoon. For the sixth consecutive season, the Wolverine softball team won a first round playoff game. Wolverines Advance To WPIAL Quarterfinals With Upset Victory Over Avonworth

Steve Antuono, Alexander Roth, and Joseph Roth provided a balanced scoring attack and Ellwood City used a strong performance in the fourth quarter to earn its 58-53 victory over Avonworth Thursday night at North Allegheny HS. The victory advanced the 11-seeded Wolverines (11-4 overall) into the quarterfinals of the Class-3A Playoffs. Girls Volleyball Team Advances To WPIAL Championship

The Ellwood City Lady Wolverines volleyball team fell to top-seeded, and defending champion North Catholic (17-0) in WPIAL quarterfinal action on Tuesday. The Trojans captured the victory in straight sets, 25-13, 25-11, 25-19, to advance to the Class-AA semifinals on Thursday. Panthers, Lady Wolverines Both Looking To Advance In WPIAL Playoffs Thursday

Two local high school teams will continue their championship quests in their respective WPIAL playoff games Thursday evening. The Riverside boys soccer team marched onto the second round of the Class 1A WPIAL Playoffs with a 2-0 victory Monday night over Carlynton. The Panthers (11-2-1 overall) are set to face off against Avonworth Thursday evening at Ambridge with a 6:30 game time.  Avonworth defeated Mohawk 4-0 in their opening round contest. Ellwood City Varsity Girls Volleyball On To WPIAL Playoffs

The Lady Wolverines squad collected a birth in the WPIAL volleyball playoffs that begin this week.  Ellwood City will face a 6-6 Beth Center team in a play-in round of the WPIAL Playoffs Tuesday evening.  The match will take place at Our Lady of Sacred Heart at 6:30pm. The Wolverines (9-3 overall) team finished second in Class 2A Section 1.  The team earned four more victories in 2018, improving from their 5-7 record last year, en route to this year’s playoff birth. “These girls have been working extremely hard since we started off-season workouts in May,” said head coach Jenna…

Riverside Varsity Will Advance to Next Round of WPIAL Playoffs

With a hard fought 3 to 1 victory, Riverside Baseball Team will advanced to the next round of the WPIAL Playoffs. Both teams were strong on the pitcher’s mound Monday, but Riverside Panthers Varsity defeated Steel Valley 3-1. Riverside  pitchers allowed just three hits to Steel Valley. The Ellwood City girls softball team advanced in the Class 3-A WPIAL Playoffs with a 4-1 first round victory over South Allegheny on Tuesday afternoon.
