Elijah Palmer-McCain ran wild Friday night, collecting 231 yards on 32 carries and accounting for all three of offensive touchdowns for Ellwood City as the Wolverines collected their second victory of the season, a 18-13 road triumph over New Brighton. The sophomore runningback took the Wolverine’s first play from scrimmage 63 yards to the endzone for a touchdown and scored on an 8-yard run in the second quarter to give the Ellwood City a 12-0 halftime advantage. Week Zero is officially in the books for the WPIAL as over 100 teams were in uniform during the Friday/Saturday action. ECASD Hires Head Football Coach; Approves COVID Health and Safety Plan

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors hired Daniel Bradley to serve as head coach of varsity football. Bradley received unanimous support from the board. He will be paid $7,000. “The students are elated,” said Brian Partridge, football boosters president, who was in attendance at the meeting. Bradley has a decade of experience serving as head coach. During that time, he has a 80-33 record. He has appeared in four WPIAL title games, with a winning title in 2018. Sam Hughes scampered for two touchdowns to lead the Riverside Panthers to their first victory of the season, a 19-0 victory over rival Ellwood City on Friday night during Homecoming at Riverside’s Memorial Stadium.
